Who is the NBA best player in the eastern conference now?

By MyHowBook Team ⚈ Published On:

Now that Lebron James has moved to Western Conference after holding the number one position for 8 long years, a great question is rising in the Eastern Conference, who is the best player right now? Today, we are evaluating some of the best players from the Eastern Conference for the 2018-19 season, who can claim the throne as the no.1 player in the east.

#10. Andre Drummond

Standing 6 ft 11 inches tall, Andre Drummond is a beast in the center. Andre is a promising player, who had a superb season last year. He averaged 16 rebounds and 15 points per game, with a player efficiency rating of almost 23.

Andre had most impressive improvement in the free throw percentage. It had started at 37% when he first appeared in the league and saw an astronomical increase to 60% last season. The 24-year-old is already a two-time NBA all-star and can easily claim the top spot if his teammates also show the same level of gameplay as Andre.

#9. Victor Oladipo

Victor Oladipo is no stranger to Indiana Pacers fans. Last season, the shooting guard single-handedly carried the Pacers to playoffs. The previous season, Oladipo averaged 23 points per game, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and set career highs in nearly every category. The reason why he is on this list is that he improved his scoring total by 63 percent from the 2016–17 season. The 26-year-old might be the breakthrough the Pacers have been searching for for a long time

#8. Kemba Walker

Sometimes even the best player doesn’t get the recognition they deserve because of the teams they play on. This is exactly what Charlotte Hornets’ point guard, Kemba Walker, is facing right now.

Kemba has been playing for Hornets for 8 years now. In the 2016-17 season, he became the second player in team history to reach 8,000 career points. In the past season, Kemba had a beautiful average of  22.1 points, 5.6 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game. Let’s see how he performs this season.

#7. Bradley Beal

Another contender on our list is none other than the wizard of the Washington Wizards, Bradley Beal. Bradley was on fire last year, he averaged 22.6 points, 4.5 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game. He also made his first All-Star appearance and he will be the one to watch out for this year. The 25-year-old is one of the best shooters in the east and is also regarded as one of the best young players in the league.

#6. John Wall

John Wall has the highest chance and best potential to take over as the no.1 player from the east and he proved just that last season. Even though he missed nine games, he had an amazing average of 19.4 points, 9.6 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game. In 2017, he extended his contract for four more years with the Washington Wizards and he’s been an NBA All-Star for five consecutive years since 2014.

#5. Ben Simmons

Without question, Ben Simmons is the best young player in the Eastern Conference right now. His unique playing style combined with his speed can set his name on the list of top 10 point guards this season. The 22-year-old debuted in the league last year and surprised everyone with his unique gameplay. Simmons averaged 15.8 points per game along with 8 assists and 8 rebounds. If the Philadelphia 76ers can get a hold of him for some time, they might get their hands on their fourth title and have the no.1 player playing on their side.

#4. Kristaps Porziņģis

Kristaps Porziņģis is another player to watch from the East Conference. The 23 years old power forward and center from New York Knicks also had a great season last year. He became the first player in the NBA since 1983–84 to score at least 40 points, five rebounds, five blocks and two 3-pointers. Even after suffering an injury in February, he had shown a great performance, averaging 22.7 points per game along with 6.6 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks.

#3. Joel Embiid

Joel Embiid is one of the big guys in the NBA. He is a massive 7 foot tall center for the Philadelphia 76ers and he is unstoppable in the paint. Due to his injuries, Joel missed some games but he played some his best basketball in the games he did appear in. Last season, he averaged 23 points, 11 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game. If he becomes less injury prone, he can be the best center in the whole Eastern Conference

#2. Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving is one of those underrated players who could not be on focus due to the big shadow of Lebron James. He also has a Championship ring with the 2016 Cavaliers when they defeated the Golden State Warrior 4 games to 3 in the finals. He had a great season last year with the Boston Celtics averaging 24 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds per game. Now that the king is gone, Kyrie Irving can easily take over the throne.

#1. Giannis Antetokounmpo

While commentators are still having a hard time pronouncing his name, Giannis Antetokounmpo is just a few steps away from being a number one player. Giannis a.k.a. The Greek Freak plays like a monster on the court. Playing for the Milwaukee Bucks, Giannis averaged 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists per game last season. Antetokounmpo joined the league in 2013 and has steadily improved in every category. That should not change in the 2018-19 season if he is to take over as the no.1 player in the Eastern Conference.
