Vic Mensa Defends Himself

More recently, Mensa took to Instagram to defend his actions. He stood by his criticisms towards the late rapper, who was accused of sexual & domestic abuse and was waiting for trial prior to his death on June 18, 2018.

X won the award for Best New Artist, which was accepted by his mother, Cleopatra Bernard. Vic acknowledged in the Instagram video that he never intended to disrespect X’s grieving mother, who was in the audience when rapped a freestyle. He stated, “It was pre-recorded weeks ago, and I had no idea that a grieving mother would be in the audience to honor her lost son. I never intended to disrespect her, and I offer my deepest condolences for her loss at the hands of gun violence.”

He continued, “However, I vehemently reject the trend in hip-hop of championing abusers, and I will not hold my tongue about it. I don’t give a f*** about getting attention. I care about bringing awareness, and holding people accountable for their actions.”
