Toni Braxton | Biography
The beautiful and multi talented Toni Braxton is an American singer, actress, song writer, musician, producer and television personality. She is the six times Grammy Awarded winner most popular as the singer of hit songs “You’re Makin’ Me High”, “Unbreak My Heart’, “He wasn’t Man enough”, etc. Broxton was born in Severn, Maryland USA on October 7, 1967, as the eldest child among six, from the parents Evelyn Jackson, a former opera singer and a cosmetologist as well as pastor and Michael Conrad Braxton Sr., a Methodist clergyman and power company worker. Toni had always dreamt to be a teacher, so she had joined Bowie State University to secure a teaching degree but later she found herself in the totally different career.
Braxton’s singing experience in early days includes her performance in church choir. She began her professional career forming a musical group The Braxtons with her four sister. They released their first single “Good Life” in 1990. The song was not a hit but was successful to drag the attention of Antonio “L.A.” Reid and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds. With them, she released her debut album “Toni Braxton” in 1993. The album made if to number one on the U.S Billboard 200 albums chart. Its first single “Another Sad Love Songs” peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. She bagged three Grammy Awards for the album. Following that, she released second album “Secret” in 1996 which peaked to number two on the Billboard 200 and the single “Unbreak My Heart” topped the Hot 100 for eleven weeks. She won two Grammys and two American Music Award. She made her recognition as dance number artist. She also opened up as co-song writer and co-executive producer.

She has continued her musical career also touring and performing at different venues. Her song with Il Divo “The Time of Our Lives” was the official song for 2006 FIFA world cup. She has also appeared on television ads for Sony Corporation of America, Pantene, Dove, Windows 8 and many more. She has appeared in reality shows Braxton Family Values and Dancing With The Stars: Season 7. She replaced Wayne Newton in the Flamingo Hotel and Casino’s headlining act in 2006.
Despite being a successful artist she has faced financial problems several times. First time, when she wasn’t getting financial rewards for her record sales she filed for bankruptcy against the label Arista LaFace Records in 1996 for the reason she temporarily lost her everything even her awards but with the settlements of lawsuit in 1999 everything was returned back. Again she had to once again file for bankruptcy in 2008’ as she had to cancel her show because of health problem and insurance company didn’t take the responsibility. Once again in 2010, she was in financial problems.
Broxton is forty five years of age,she stands five feet two inch tall. She married to her musician boyfriend Keri Lewis on April 21, 2001 and has two kids Diezel and Denim Cole Braxton. The younger one Dezel is an autism patient. She is also diagnosed with heart and lupus related problem and has been hospitalized several times due to serious illness. Recently, she has separated from her husband. They were living separately since eight years from their wedding.
