Stephen Root is an American actor for the big and small screen and voice actor. He celebrates his birthday every year on November 17 and was born in the year 1951. He is known for his portrayal of Jimmy James on the television sitcom NewsRadio, as Buck Strickland in the animated series King of the Hill and as Milton Waddams in the film Office Space as well as the voices of Bill Dauterive. He has often received acclaims for his occasional comedic and dramatic roles, like of Gordon Pibb in DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story and as Captain K'Vada in the Star Trek: The Next Generation.

He is a native of Sarasota, Florida as he was born and spent most of his early childhood there. He was born as the son of a construction supervisor Rolland Clair Root and Leona Estella. Because of his father’s job, his family frequently moved to different places. For his high school education, he went to Vero Beach High School in Vero Beach, Florida. Upon graduating from there, he attended the University of Florida and has an AA degree. Furthermore, he is trained in the BFA acting program.
