Sam Worthington nicknamed for Samuel Henry John “Sam” Worthington is an English- American film actor. Sam has been best known for his unforgettable portrayals of Jake Sully in Avatar, Marcus Wright in Terminator Salvation, Perseus in Clash of the Titans and its sequel, Wrath of theTitans and also non other than Alex Mason in the video game Call of Duty: Black Ops and its further sequel Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
The award winning actor has received Australia’s highest film award for his lead performance in Somersault. Till the date, he has acted in various types of films, as like, romantic-comedy, action-comedy and science fiction as well as action. Sam was born on August 2, 1976 in Godalming, Surrey, England in South West England to an English family. Later his family moved to Perth, Western Australia when he was only six months old. He spent his childhood in Warnbro, a suburb of Rockingham. His mother, Jeanne J. is a housewife and his father Ronald W. Worthington was a power plant employee. As for his siblings, he has one sister, Lucinda up.
For his education background, he attended John Curtin College of the Arts, a school specializing in the dramatic arts, located in Fremantle, Western Australia, where he studied drama but didn't graduate. After his college, his father handed him $400 and sent him on a one-way trip to Cairns, Queensland to work and earn money so that he can return home. After leaving his hometown, he began working on construction and other odd jobs in Sydney, New South Wales. When he was 19 years old, he was already working as a bricklayer.
At the mean time he got chance to get auditioned for the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) and was accepted with a scholarship. It was in 2004, when he had a major role in Somersault, in the film he got chance to act as the lead Actor. He won the AFI Award for best Actor for his role in Somersault. Afterwards he was well known in Australia as Howard in the acclaimed Australian TV series Love My Way, in which he played the main love interest of the female lead. Later his other international film career began with a series of small roles in Hollywood production The Great Raid (2005), which was filmed in Australia. His success was followed him in next year as well, in Terminator Salvation, he played Cyborg Marcus Wright who assisted the humans despite their suspicions of him. Prior to release of Terminator Salvation, the James Cameron directed science fiction film Avatar. In the film, he played Jake Sully, a paraplegic US Marine who, assigned to control an alien body called an avatar through a neural link, finds himself at the centre of a war between his own species and the indigenous Na'vi people of the moon Pandora. The film went on to become the highest-grossing film of all time. He was selected as one of the entrants to the Who's Who in Australia 2011 edition. In November 2011, Worthington along with Jonah Hill and Dwight Howard starred in commercials for the video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. In 2012, Worthington starred in the sequel to Clash of the Titans, called Wrath of the Titans, alongside Liam Neeson.
Worthington was in relationship with an actress Maeve Dermody for 3 years but they broke up in 2008. Later he also had relation with Natalie Mark from 2008 to 2011. Recently he had a strong relation with his fellow Australian model Lara Bingle. Despite of being in multiple relations, he is still unmarried. He has not yet thought about getting settled at present time. One of the interesting facts about him is, he was arrested in New York City for Assault, after punching a paparazzo on February 23, 2014. On 26 February, Worthington appeared in Manhattan Criminal Court, where he was ordered to stay away from Sheng Li for six months.
At the start of 2015, he has accumulated total net worth amount of $12 million. He was recently finalized to star in ‘The Shack’.
