Sam Elliott is an American actor who appeared in movies like The Big Lebowski, Mask and Gettysburg.

He is best known for the Western roles as cowboys and ranchers sporting a thick moustache and deep voice. 

He was born in Sacramento, California, to a physical training instructor mother and a government official father. 

He started his acting career in the late 60s with small TV roles on series like ‘The Crystal Maze’ and ‘Lancer.’

In the 70s, he appeared in a number of lead roles in the series like Mission: Impossible, Once an Eagle, and Aspen. 

His received breakthrough with his supporting role in 1985 movie, Mask and has regularly been working in movies and TV shows.

His notable movies include ‘Gone to Texas,’ ‘The Big Lebowski,’ ‘Hulk,’ ‘Thank You for Smoking’ and ‘Ghost Rider.’ 

He also appeared in shows like ‘Parks and Recreation,’ ‘Justified,’ ‘The Ranch,’ ‘Buffalo Girls,’ and many more. 

Apart from acting roles, he has lent his voice to commercials for Dodge, IBM, Coors, American Beef Council and many more.

He has been married to Katherine Ross since 1984. They worked together in a 1969 movie, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. 

However, they did not share a scene and only met in 1978 working on the horror movie, The Legacy. 

The couple is parents to a daughter, Cleo Rose Elliott  (born on September 17, 1984), who is a professional musician.

Sam and Katherine appeared in a 2017 movie, The Hero, where Sam played the role of Lee Hayden, an aging actor with a golden voice. 

In 2018, he is set to appear in leading roles in movies, ‘A Star in Born,’ ‘The Gettysburg Address’ and ‘The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot.’
