Hattie Helen Gould Beck well-known as ‘Sally Rand’ was an extremely talented burlesque dancer and actress. She was best known for her notable balloon ‘bubble dance’ and Ostrich feather ‘fan dance’. Rand has also performed under the name of Billie Beck. This gorgeous dancer was born on 3rd April, 1904 in Hickory County, Missouri, U.S. She was born to a retired U.S. Army officer, William Beck and a school teacher, Nettie Beck. She shifted her place to Jackson County, Missouri while studying in the grade school. Sally started performing at the Kansas City’s ‘Empress Theater’ at the young age of 13. She was highly admired and appreciated for her performance by the drama critic, Goodman Ace. After having gaining the enough knowledge about the ballet and drama, she decided to move on to pursue career in acting. Her first work came at the Ringling Brothers Circus as an acrobat.

In the year 1939, she starred in the Sally Rand’s Nude Ranch organized at ‘Golden Gate International Exposition’. While performing at the ‘Club Savoy’ she has got arrested twice in San Francisco. In 1957, she made her appearance in the television series ‘To Tell the Truth’. In addition to this, she has also appeared in the stage where she has performed the fan dance. During the early period of 1970s, she performed at the ‘Mitchell Brothers’ Club based in San Francisco. Her other major performance came as one of stars of 1972 nostalgia revue called ‘Big Show of 1928’. In the year 1941, she became the popular dancing personality when she performed her popular bubble dance in the ‘Hollywood Steps Out’.
Moving towards her personal life, she has got married four times in her life. She first got married to Clarence Robbins. However, there is not any information about her first marriage. In 1941, she got married to Thurkel Greenough. After being separated with Thurkel, she got married to Harry Finkelstein in 1949. But their relationship didn’t last long. In the year 1954, she tied knot in marital relation with Fred Lalla. Like her previous marriage life, her relation with Fred also ended with the divorce. Rand, one of the great dancers is no more in this world. She left this world on 31st August, 1979 at Foothill Presbyterian Hospital located in Glendora, California.
