Priscilla Ahn | Biography
Born Priscilla Natalie Hartranft on March 9, 1984 and popularly known by her professional name Priscilla Ahn is an American singer, song writer and multi-instrumentalist. Her debut album, A Good Day, produced by Joey Waronker for EMI's Blue Note Records was released in 2008. After graduating from her high school, she moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue a career in music. She has toured with Amos Lee, Willie Nelson, Ray LaMontagne, Joshua Radin and Devotchka and her collaborative efforts include Tiesto's “I Am Strong,” Cary Brothers “Maps” and Ashtar Command's “The Breakup Song.” Ahn has released several albums such as When You Grow Up, and This Is Where We Are and has toured internationally in tours in Korea, Japan, China, and the USA.
Ahn is a native of Fort Stewart, Georgia, United States of America as she was born and spent her early life there. She was welcomed to the family as the daughter of Kay and Harry Hartranft. She was raised up in Berks County, Pennsylvania, and went to Tulpehocken Area High School. She had an early interest in music started playing guitar at the young age of 14. She also performed in choirs and musical productions throughout high school. Upon graduation, her music professor encouraged her to pursue her music as full-time career.
At the start of her musical career, Priscilla started performing at open mic nights. After years of hard work, she got a chance to play a showcase in New York City for Blue Note Records and was signed to the label. In 2008, her full-length debut album, A Good Day, produced by Joey Waronker was released by Blue Note Records. Her album, A Good Day included musical contributions by guitarist/film composer Mike Andrews, keyboardists Greg Kurstin, Keefus Ciancia, musical saw player Ursula Knudsun, keyboardist Larry Goldings, cellist/string arranger Oliver Kraus, and singers Jim Gilstrap and Orin Waters. In June of the following year, she went on a national tour. She has toured with Amos Lee, Willie Nelson, Joshua Radin, and Ray Lamontagne and has even contributed vocals to the albums Supply and Demand, Mission Bell and Kaleidoscope. As to heighten her fame, her songs have appeared on several television shows such as Make It Or Break It, Grey's Anatomy, Ghost Whisperer,Knight Rider, Married Single Other, and in films including Bride Wars, Disturbia, Love Happens, Free Willy: Escape from Pirate's Cove and My Sister's Keeper. Ahn experienced a period of writers block and to get rid of it, she isolated herself in a remote desert hotel to create new music for the album This is Where We Are. The album was released on 15 February 2014 in the US, on 19 July 2013 in Japan and later in Korea and Taiwan. Her music is described as grounded in folk, country and pop but in the album This Is Where We Are she has explored into electropop music.
Ahn is among those celebrities who prefer to keep their personal lives away from the scrutiny of media and people. However, we do know that Ahn is a married woman. Her husband is the actor Michael Weston. The couple is said to have dated for some time before tying the knot in May 2010. When it comes to her private life she likes to stay tight lipped about it and besides that, not much is known.
