International star, Miranda Otto, is a famous Australian actress for the film, television and theater. She celebrates her birthday every year on December 16 and was born in the year 1967. Having started her career at the young age of 18, she landed her major debut role in the movie Emma’s War. Later, she did numerous critically acclaimed roles in Australian films and also caught a lot of attention in Hollywood with movies such as What Lies Beneath and The Thin Red Line. Most of all, she is best known for portraying the role of Eowyn in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy.
Otto was born in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, as a daughter to actors Lindsay and Barry Otto. She spent most of her childhood in Newcastle and Brisbane. Her parents divorced when she was 7 years old. She visited her father during weekends and holidays and he inspired her to become an actress. Following her interest in acting, she appeared in various plays at the Nimrod Theater. It was during that time that she caught the attention of Faith Martin, who was a casting director. Thus, landed a role in the film Emma’s War. She went to National Institute of Dramatic Art and graduated from there in 1990.

Her role was featured on the second and third film of the trilogy. She starred in the Australian TV miniseries Through My Eyes: The Lindy Chamberlain Story in 2004 and earned a Logie Awards for the Most Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series. She was cast opposite Tom Cruise in the film War of the Worlds in 2005, adding much to her international fame. She has done a commendable job in the theater too, earning a few awards for her performances.
She was in a relationship with fellow actor Richard Roxburgh, who she met on the sets of Doing Time for Patsy Cline. The relationship ended with a separation. She married Peter O’Brien on January 1, 2003. Her husband is an actor and was her co-star in the movie A Doll’s House. She gave birth to her first child, a daughter, Darcey, on April 1, 2005. She now focuses much of her time in her family life but also makes time to do some films too. She lives in Australia with her husband and daughter and is living a happy family life.
