From the Netherlands to big city of the U.S. to Meereen, Michiel Huisman captured audiences from different continents at a time. Starting off a career in local TV and film, he later traveled stateside and later became a mainstay in HBO’s Treme. 1. Association with a Band

Huisman formed a band, Fontane, with Roland van der Hoofd, Gilles Tuinder, Bas van Geldere and Donny Griffioen. Their singles 1+1=2 and Slapeloos was on the soundtrack of two 2002 films, Costa! and Full Moon Party, respectively. He starred in both movies. After Fontane disbanded following the exit of two members, he pursued solo career releasing singles, Deel Van Mij and Geef Je Over and album, Luchtige Verhalen.

2. Sonny was Troublesome IRL for Michiel

After appearing in several TV shows, he starred as a street musician, Sonny in the TV series, Treme, which earned him wide recognition. But his on-screen character troubled him in real life. For his character’s dark behavior, his fans treated him quite vaguely.

He once shared,

I would be walking somewhere, in the Lafitte Park on the boardwalk with my family, and somebody would say, ‘Are you the guy on “Treme?”’ I’m like, ‘Yeah.’ ‘Is this your family?’ ‘Yeah.’ ‘So you’re actually a nice guy?’

Fans got to see the brighter side of Sonny at the beginning of the second season, and with that, things got back into place for Michiel as well.

3. Game of Thrones

He scored a role in the hit series, Game of Thrones, as Daario Naharis in the fourth season, replacing Ed Skrein. Michiel was promoted to a series regular in the fifth season and appeared till the sixth season. Despite having not read the Game of Thrones book, he nailed his performance in the show which earned him two Screen Actors Guild Award.

4. Net Worth

Starting as a child actor in local TV shows, he gradually gained wide recognition and went on to appear in hit shows like Treme, Nashville and Orphan Black. As of now, he is busy with Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House, where he appears as Steven Crane. After more than 2 decades in the industry, he has been able to rack up some hefty cash. As of 2018, he has an estimated net worth of $3 million.

Michiel has been married to Dutch actress Tara Elders since 2008. Together, they have a daughter, Hazel Judith Huisman (born 2007). After living in New Orleans, Louisiana, for years, the family of three have taken up residence in New York City since 2017.
