Melissa Ann McCarthy is an American actress, comedian, writer and producer by her actual and major profession. Her name first came in to recognition after her role as Sookie St. james on the famous television series called, Gilmore Girls. She has been famous for portraying the role of Dena from 2007 to 2009 on the ABC sitcom. Her role as Molly Flynn-Biggs on the CBS sitcom Mike & Molly helped her to win a Primetime Emmy Award. Her role of outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series has been very much persuading and appreciating till the end. She has also got numerous nominations during subsequent seasons. To the contrary to her nominations, she has been nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her work as host on Saturday Night Live three years. Melissa was born on August 26, 1970 in Plainfield, Illinois as a daughter of Sandra and Michael McCarthy, Irish-Catholic farmers. She completed her graduation from St. Francis Academy in Joliet, Illinois. After her graduations she moved to New York to begin her career as standup comedian. Her acting career had started when she was living in New York. Later in the late 1990s, she moved to Los Angeles and there she became a member of the legendary comedy theatre The Groundings. A "Groundling" refers to an individual company member who both writes for and performs in the theatre’s shows while teaching classes at the company’s school. Her next breakthrough was from a movie Gilmore Girls as Sookie. In LA she spent successive nine years as a main-stage member and while she was still connected to Groundings, she made numerous television and film appearances. During her journey as an actress, from 2000 to 2003, she had many supporting roles in many films like, The Kid, Go, and Charlie’s Angels. Her biggest breakthrough role was on the popular WB show called Gilmore Girls as Sookie St. James. The show had a successful run til 2007, and at the mean time McCarthy acted alongside Ryan Reynolds in the psychological thriller The Nines. From 2007 to 2009, McCarthy played the socially awkward best friend of Christina Applegate in the comedy series Samantha Who?.
Her role of fourth grade teacher Molly on the CBS hit Sitcom Mike & Molly helped her to win her first Emmy Award as outstanding Lead Actress of comedy class.
Recently in 2013, McCarthy showed her strong appeal at the box office from her role Sandra Bullock star in the buddy comedy The Heat. At present McCarthy plays a Boston cop who teams up with a FBI agent (played by Bullock) in this summer blockbuster. This mismatched duo are out to take down a drug lord in the film, which brought in more than $40 million in its first weekend.
