Kris Allen was born as Kristopher Neil Allen on June 21, in the year 1985. He is an American musician, singer and songwriter. His fame rocketed as he became the winner of the eighth season of the singing reality show, American Idol. Before that, he had released his album Brand New Shoes in 2007. After winning American Idol, he released a self-titled album on November 17, 2009, debuting at number 11 on the U.S. Billboard 200 list. Its lead single, Live Like We’re Dying, was released on 21 September, 2009 peaking at number 18 in the U.S. His released his other album, Thank You Camellia, on May 22, 2012.
He is from Jacksonville, Arkansas, United States. He was born as the eldest son to Kimberley and Neil Allen. He had a keen interest in music at a very young age and played the viola during his elementary school. He played in the orchestra of University Studies High School. He learned the guitar at the age of 13, all by himself and also plays the piano.. On completion of his high school education, he moved to Conway, Arkansas, and went to University of Central Arkansas. He studied business and was member of the campus ministries, Chi Alpha. He travelled around the world for the Christian Missionary work. He dropped out of college to pursue his career in music. Before American Idol happened, he had already decided that he wanted a career in music. He wrote and self-produced an album called Brand New Shoes, in 2007, with college friends and band mates. The title is a reference to his work as a shoe salesman. To try out his luck, he auditioned for the eighth season of American Idol from Louisville, Kentucky. He slowly started getting noticed for his good work and earned many praises and compliments from the judges, including Simon Cowell. He played many instruments during the show such as electric guitar, acoustic guitar, piano and keyboard. He was announced the winner of American Idol on May 20, 2009. There were comments made that his win was upsetting as his competitor Adam Lambert, received high media attention and was quite popular throughout the show. Nevertheless, it was also said that he won by a high margin. After winning American Idol, five of his songs debuted at the Billboard Hot 100 list. He then signed with Jive Records. His album Kris Allen was released on 17 November, 2009. The album received a cold response at first but picked up slowly. He had his first solo tour during June and July 2010 and then joined other tours. His next album, Thank You Camellia was released on May 22, 2012. He is all set to release his third album which will be releasing sometime in the year 2014.
Kris is married to Katy O’Connell. Her wife was his high school sweetheart and they had been dating for some time. They finally tied the knot on 26 September, 2008. He was already married by the time he was the winner of American Idol, so he is the show’s first married Idol. The couple has a son, Oliver Neil Allen, who was born on 30 July, 2013. He is living a happy and satisfied life with his family. The rumors of divorce are unlikely to spread anytime in the future.
