Popularly known by his professional name Josh Groban, Joshua Winslow Groban is an American singer, musician, songwriter, actor, and record producer. He was born in the year 1981 and celebrates his birthday on February 27 every year. His first four solo albums have been certified multi-platinum, and in 2007, he was charted as the number-one best selling artist in the United States with over 21 million records in the nation. As of the start of October 2014, he has sold over 25 million records all over the world.
He was born in Los Angeles, California, United States of America as the son of a school teacher mother Lindy and a businessman father Jack Groban. He also has a younger brother, Chris, born four years later and whom he shares his birthday with. He has Russian and Polish ancestry from his father and Norwegian, English and German descent form his mother. He was interested in singing from a very young age and debuted as a singer in his seventh grade. With his increased inclination towards theater arts he also attended the Interlochen Center for the Arts Camp in Michigan, in the summers of 1997 and 1998, with majors in music theatre, and also started taking vocal lessons. Groban then attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and graduated as a theatre major in 1999. Upon graduation, he enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University with the intention of studying drama, and on being offered a recording contract, he gave up acting to pursue his singing career.
He was coached by the Grammy winner David Foster and was offered a recording contract at Warner Bros. Records through Foster's 143 Records imprint. His self-titled debut album Josh Groban was released on November 20, 2001 which became double platinum. His second effort Closer, released in 2003, continued the success of his first album. Josh released his next album Awake in 2006, Noel in 2007 and Illuminations in 2010. His recent album All That Echoes was released in 2013. Besides his musical career, he has made several television appearances like on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Oprah Winfrey Show six times, as well as on Larry King Live, Tim & Eric Awesome Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Great Job!, 20/20, Today, The Rosie O'Donnell Show, Super Bowl XXXVIII, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Jimmy Kimmel Live and has been a guest co-host on Live with Regis and Kelly several times.
