Finola Hughes Biography
Finola Hughes is an English film and television actress, author, television host, former dancer, producer and director. She was born on October 29, in the year 1959. She is best known for her portrayal of Anna Devane on the popular soap opera General Hospital, General Hospital: Night Shift and as Anna Devane’s identical twin sister, Dr. Alexandra Devane Marick on All My Children. She also gained wide recognition as Patty Halliwell on Charmed and as Carol on Blossom. To add to her film credit, she has done a notable work in movies like Above Suspicion, Aspen Extreme, Like Crazy and Staying Alive.
She was born and spent most of her early childhood in London, United Kingdom. She has Italian descent from her mother and Irish descent from her father. Not much is known about her early childhood and growing up. She went to Arts Educational Schools London and trained in dance and performing arts. On winning the Markova award, she started her career with Northern Ballet Company.
She was the first person to play the role of Victoria the White Cat in the London Production of Cats in 1981. In 1983, she starred in the musical film Staying Alive, a sequel of Saturday Night Fever. On moving to California in 1984, she was cast as Anna Devane on the General Hospital in 1985. She portrayed the role until 1992 and was awarded with a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in 1991. She then tried her hands at directing and made the movie Soapdish. She played the female lead in the movie Aspen Extreme, which came out in 1993. She returned to General Hospital in August 2006 for a limited run and a year later in July 2007 and once again in April 2008. She was a guest star of its spinoff series General Hospital: Night Shift and had a permanent return to the original series General Hospital in March 2012. She has also appeared on the sitcom Blossom, soap opera Pacific Palisades, TV series Charmed, Melissa & Joey, Make It or Break It, CSI: NY, How Do I Look, and on movies such as Killer Hair, Tycus, Disarmed, Jekyll Island and many more. She had voice roles in Superman: The Last Son of Krypton, Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World, All-Star Superman and Scooby-Doo! Legend of the Phantosaur. She directed and was the executive producer of the 2013 movie The Bet.
