Most of the people would be wondering, who is the guide who appeared as Harry Potter in the Harry Potter series. Daniel Radcliffe is the sweet guy who played as Harry throughout the series and set his own trademark in the film industry at a young age. He also gave strong performances in the theatres live in front of the audiences and in a number of TV shows.
The English actor was born on July 23, 1989 in West London at Queen Charlotte’s Hospital. He is from a working class family. He is the only child of father Alan George Radcliffe, a literary agent and mother Marcia Jeannine Gresham. He belongs to Irish and Jewish ancestry. He received his early education from independent boys school Sussex House School and completed his AS levels from City of London School. He achieved A grade in three AS Levels in 2006. The boy who considered academic education “really difficult” didn’t go to university. Radcliffe was always aspired to build his career in acting. His parents had also acted as child artists.
He had shown interested in acting from the age of five. When he was 10 he got his chance. He made his debut as title character in the televised version of Charles Dickens’ novel David Copperfield. Next he landed on the role of Mark Pendel in the film the Tailor of Panama. The big roe came along his way when he was taken in the lead role of Harry in the big budget film Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, an adaptation of famous novel Harry Potter by J. K. Howling. Actually his parents didn’t want him to audition for it but he had already caught the sight of the director Chris Columbus and producer David Heyman. He was addressed as “the perfect” by the writer Howling.
With the release of the movie, he rose to prominence. The movie was a blockbuster, the highest earning film of 2001 grossing US$974 million. His role was critically acclaimed. After the success of first installment the series continued to its eighth installment. The other installment “Harry Potter and the Chambers of Secrets Harry Potter” (2002), “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Harry Potter” (2004), “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Harry Potter” (2005), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Harry Potter” (2007), “ Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Harry Potter” (2009), adaptation of each of the novel series were successful. The last novel was split onto two parts as “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows- Part 1 Harry Potter” (2010) and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows- Part 2 Harry Potter” (2011). The eighth one was the most successful grossing over $1.3 billion, the 4th highest grossing of all time.
Apart from Harry Potter series, he starred in December Boys Maps (2007) an Australian family drama. In his post Harry period, he played in the 2012 novel based horror film The Woman In Black. Most recently, he appeared in the thriller Kill Your Darling as beat poet Allen Ginsberg. His filmography includes upcoming movies “The F Word” and “Horns”. The future plans are “Frankenstein” and “Tokyo Vice”.
The twenty four year old star has continued his work on TV too. He appeared on “My Boy Jack”, a remembrance of Rudyard Kipling novel aired by ITV in 2007. He lent his voice to a character in The Simpson, an animated television series. Besides, he has appeared in numerous other shows such as Saturday Night Live, Extras, QI, Have I Got News For You. Beginning in 2012, he is in the miniseries “A Young Doctor’s Note Book”.
Radcliffe has shown promising acting talent. He played in the theatre too. He started theatre act in 2002 with the drama The Play What I Wrote. His portrayal as an adult in the2005 play Equus in the lead character Alan Strong at the Gielglud theatre was greatly applauded. He came back among the American with the same act in 200 at Broadthurst theatre. This act earned him Drama Desk Award nomination. He also played in Hoe to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying in 20011 at Hirschfeld Theatre and in The Cripple of Inishmaan at Nobel Theatre.
For the phenomenal performances he garnered numerous awards and nominations. For Harry Potter he was nominated for Best Young Performer Broadcast Film Critic Association Award and won Male Youth Discovery of the Year in 2001. He won many other awards including National Movie Award best Male Performance (2007), Choice Summer Movie Star: Male (2011), People’s Choice Award 2012, Glamour Award Man of the Year, etc. For his theatre acts he bagged Grammy Award: Best Musical Theatre Album, Favorite Leading Actor in a Broadcast Play along with numerous nominations for on-screen as well as stage performance.
Radcliffe is in active social welfare activity. He advocates for equality for the third gender people. He has donated for the theatres too. He is supporting the charity Demelza House Children’s Hospice in Sittingbourne, Kent. He donated his old glasses, a pair of trousers he wore in Equus and other materials to be auctioned for charity. He has earned popularity and monetary worth beyond measure. He was ranked No 1 by Forbes on “The Most Valuable Stars” list and was considered to be richest teenager in 2009. An interest matter is that he is richer than Prince William.
The Harry Potter is very close to his on-screen friends Emma Watson and Ton Felton in real life too. He is still single and might be looking forward towards his career than marriage or romance. He has maintained a clean image throughout his career. He has even quit alcohol since 2011. He lives in London.
