5 Facts about AGT Finalist Courtney Hadwin! Signed a Record Deal

By MyHowBook Team ⚈ Published On:

It didn’t take that long for Courtney Hadwin to make headlines after receiving a golden buzzer during her audition in America's Got Talent season 13. With Janis Joplin-esque singing style, then “13-year-old” amused everyone with her amazing rendition of Otis Redding’s Hard To Handle. Hadwin made it to the grand finale of AGT 2018, all thanks to her powerful voice and stellar performance skills. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to impress America as much as magician Shin Lim.

However, only a few weeks has passed since the AGT finale, and Hadwin is already making big moves in the music industry. Daily Mail reported that the 14 years old British singer has reportedly signed a record deal with Syco Entertainment. According to some sources, Simon Cowell has been "keen" on adding Hadwin to his talent lineup. Get ready people; another star is on her way!

So now that she is getting big in the music industry, it might not come as a surprise that her fans are curious to know more about her. Today, we’ve brought five things about this up-and-coming singer that you may not know.

#1. The American Dream

Hadwin is a resident of Hesleden, a small town in northeast England. While she is on her way to becoming a star in the States, her parents don’t want her to start a new life here. For Hadwin’s father, it has been painful watching his daughter outgrow her hometown. Her father says, "we're just a normal family and, to be honest, I'd prefer her to stay in the village with us.”

On the contrary, she doesn’t have the same thoughts as her parents. Hadwin says she wants to start a new life in the U.S. with her parents. Before the AGT finals, she revealed that if she would win the show, she’d find her family a new place with a swimming pool with the prize money.

#2. The Voice Kids UK Finalist

Before Hadwin became AGT’s wonderkid, she had auditioned for The Voice Kids U.K. in 2017. Like she stunned judges in AGT, she had done the same in The Voice too. With a breathtakingly powerful voice, her performance was on fire.

She chose Tina Turner as her coach in the blind audition and was able to make her way through the finals in the show too. However, at the end of the competition, Jess Folley from Team Pixie was crowned the champion and Hadwin ended up in the top six.

#3. Bullying Victim

Hadwin had to face some knucklehead bullies and their comments after appearing in The Voice. Even though she had collected a lot of fans online, kids in her school started calling her names. "They're not used to people singing like me. I get called names. They say I sing like a boy. I try not to let it get to me, and I just hope they're watching me now”, she told The Sun. More bullying followed after AGT, but this time it was on social media.

#4. Hate from AGT Fans

After they found out Hadwin was a finalist on The Voice, some AGT fans weren’t happy about Hadwin receiving the golden buzzer and heading straight to the live show. A lot of fans took to different social media platforms to complain about Hadwin’s previous experiences. One angry fan took to Twitter to voice his rage saying, "Courtney Hadwin said she'd never performed B4 an audience that big and she and her dad acted like they didn't know if she could perform cuz she's so shy.” Some even shared that it was really unfair to other participants. However, she is handling all the animosity like a pro.

AGT judge, Howie Mandel, who pressed the golden buzzer for her, has her back. He jumped quick to defend the young artist and told GoodHouseKeeper, “I don't understand why that's an advantage. And it's like, you know, you don't have to be from America to be on America's Got Talent. You can have a career and you could've been on the other Got Talent shows." He further added, “It's not an act. Here's a person who's just really uncomfortable. Just being a 14-year-old girl is probably really uncomfortable — I've raised two daughters myself.” Take that, haters!

#5. Dreamt a Dream!

Apart from conquering the talent shows, Hadwin has also performed in numerous stage productions. Her most recognizable stage performance was the stage adaptation of classic French novel, Les Misérables, by Victor Hugo in her hometown. Hadwin portrayed the role of young Cosette in the musical
