The entertainment industry has continuously proved that money and fame don’t always equate to happiness. And behind their seemingly got-it-all-together life, there can be serious struggles the world may not be aware of.
Last week shocked us with back to back news of high-profile suicides. The news of the death of fashion and accessories designer, Kate Spade and TV host/chef, Anthony Bourdain in apparent suicides has exhibited a possibly grim impact on a segment of the population who are already suffering from mental issues.
Meanwhile, to raise awareness and help people suffering from depression, suicide prevention week will be observed this year from Sept. 9 to Sept. 15. To honor the cause, we are presenting you a list of 10 celebrities that committed suicide.
Major sex symbol of the 50s and 60s, Monroe still remains as one of the most talked-about Hollywood icons ever. Although some people argue otherwise, she was found dead at her home due to barbiturate poisoning in a “probable suicide.” She was 36 at the time.
Social media had gone bonkers over the suicide of the legendary actor and comedian. The 63-year-old was suffering from chronic depression for a while and decided to take his life by hanging himself in his home in Tiburon, California, on Aug. 11, 2014.
Battling depression and drug addiction, the Nirvana lead singer joined the mythical 27 club. He shot himself in the head on April 5, 1994, in his Seattle home. He had also tried to commit suicide a few months earlier and even escaped from a detox center days before the incident.
The lead singer of era-defining rock band Linkin Park was found dead in his home in Palos Verdes Estates, California in July 2017. Fighting depression and alcohol addiction for a while, the singer committed suicide by hanging.
Possessing a four-octave vocal range, Cornell was the lead singer for the rock bands Soundgarden and Audioslave. He had battled depression much of his life and sadly hung himself in his Detroit hotel room on May 18, 2017, an hour after his Soundgarden concert.
The legendary WWE superstar, Benoit was struggling with dementia and steroid complications. Within a span of 3 days in June 2007, Benoit strangled his wife and 7 years old son and then killed himself by breaking his neck.
Brandis was best known for his portrayal of Bill Denbrough in hit 1990 horror drama ‘It’ and Bastian Bux in ‘The NeverEnding Story II.’ However, the actor was depressed due to his waning career and hung himself in Nov 2003 in the hallway of his LA apartment building.
Four-time recipient of “British Designer of the Year,” McQueen was one of the best designers in the fashion world. However, in February 2010, the-40-year-old couldn’t cope with the tragedy of his mother’s death and hung himself in his apartment in London, just a day before his mother’s funeral.
Lucy Gordon had gained quite a recognition from her role as Jennifer Dugan in ‘Spiderman 3’. However, the actress hung herself in her apartment just 2 days before her 29th birthday on 20 May 2009 while her boyfriend was sleeping.
Chubbuck is the first person to commit suicide on live television. She shot herself during a live broadcast in 1974 which was apparently the result of her chronic depression due to lack of relationships.
