Carla Hall :: Biography
An American chef and television personality, ‘Carla Hall’ was born on May 12, 1964 in Nashville, Tennessee. Carla belongs to an American nationality and carries an ethnicity of African-American. Currently, she is working as one of five co-hosts on a one hour talk show which is centered on food from all angles ‘The Chew’. The show was premiered in September 2011 on ABC network. Hall completed her graduation in 1986 from the Howard University. She holds her Bachelor degree in Accounting. After graduation she served at Price Waterhouse for two years and earned a CPA certificate.
Hall began her career as a model on the runways of Paris, Milan and London in 1988. She fell in love with the art of food when she worked as a model in these three cities. Later she returned to Washington D.C. and started a lunch delivery service called Lunch Bunch. She served the Lunch Bunch for four years and then she graduated with a Culinary Career Training certificate in L’Academie de Cuisine in Githersburg, Maryland. In 1996, she served an externship at Henley Park Hotel where she was promoted to sous chef. After a year working at Henley Park Hotel, she worked as the executive chef at State Plaza and the Washington club. Hall’s desire for work never ended. Later she started her own catering company named ‘Alchemy Caterers’ in 2001 which is located in Silver Spring, Maryland. She was an in charge of her company which she later renamed Alchemy by Carla Hall. Carla has written the cookbook called ‘Cooking With Love: Comfort Food that hugs You’ which depicts her love for cooking. However, her career turning breakthrough came in 2008 where she was selected as a contestant on the fifth season of Top Chef. In the initial stage of show she was unnoticed but reached in top with the Thanksgiving challenge. She won two more challenges after episode 10 where she served the judges with crawfish gumbo. The judges of show really impressed by her gumbo and remained in top for several episodes. However, in the final challenge she ended as runners-up. From the show, she gained popularity although she did not win Fan Favorite in the show. She also became popular for her philosophy of ‘Cooking with love’ on Top Chef. Hall became a part of the cast of Top Chef: All Stars along with participants from past seasons. It was the eight season of the show. Her demonstrating recipe of chicken pot pie on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon led her to gain more popularity. Like her past challenge, she was eliminated in the first round of finals and finished with fifth position in the competition. For her outstanding performances in the show, she received of ‘Fan Favorite’ for the season by viewers of the show. From September 26, 2011 she has been co-hosting the show ‘The Chew’ on ABC.
