William Rankin Patton, popularly known by his professional name Will Patton is an American actor for the big and small screen and theaters. Currently, he stars as Colonel Dan Weaver in the TNT science fiction series Falling Skies. He celebrates his birthday every year on June 14 and was born in the year 1954. He has also appeared in films such as Gone in 60 Seconds, The Punisher and Armageddon.

He is a native of Charleston, South California, United States of America as he was born and spent most of his early life in there. His father, Bill Patton, was a playwright, acting and directing instructor and a Lutheran minister serving as a Chaplain at Duke University. Patton’s parents ran a foster home in a farm for wayward teenagers and it was in those farms, Patton was raised. He went North Carolina School of Arts in Winston-Salem and then trained at The Actors' Studio in New York City, New York with Joseph Chaiken.

Patton started his career with the theaters and is the proud owner of two Obie Awards for best actor which he won for his outstanding performances in the Public Theater production of What Did He See? and Sam Shepard's play Fool for Love. His first major film was No Way Out and had a significant role in the film. For his portrayal of General Bethlehem in The Postman, he was nominated for the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor. He also portrayed FBI agent Melvin Purvis in the 1991 made-for-television film Dillinger and coach Bill Yoast in Remember the Titans. Will voiced for the audio version of The Assault on Reason by Al Gore, and also gave his voice to Alan Wilson on the TV show 24. In 2011, he landed the role of Colonel Weaver in the TNT sci-fi television series Falling Skies, executive produced by Steven Spielberg and has been portraying the character ever since. His recent work can be seen in Numb3rs, 24, CSI Grant vs. Lee, and many others. Besides that, he also narrates audio books and narrated over forty audio books.
