Caryn Elaine Johnson, popularly known by her stage name Whoopi Goldberg is an American actress, comedian, singer-songwriter, author, talk show host and political activist for her major profession. She was born in the year of 1955 and celebrates her birthday on November 13, every year. In her work fieldm she is best known for her roles in various films such as The Color Purple (1985), Ghost (1990), Soapdish (1991), Made in America (1993), Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (1993) and many others. Goldberg was born in Manhattan as the daughter of the nurse and teacher, Emma, and a clergyman Robert James Johnson Jr. She was raised in the Chelsea-Elliot Houses and dropped out of high school. She worked as a phone sex operator, working from home at night. Between 1979 and 1981, she lived in East Germany, and worked in a number of theater productions.
