Timothy Olyphant was born on May 20, 1968. His full name is Timothy David Olyphant. He is an American actor most known as the Sheriff Seth Bullock of the TV series Deathwood. He portrayed the character for three years from 2004 to 2006. He is currently getting famous for playing the role of Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens in the FX series Justified. He has also added lots of films to his credit and has starred in Scream 2 (1997), Gone in 60 Seconds (2000), The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy (2000), Live Free or Die Hard/ Die Hard 4.0 (2007), The Crazies (2010), Rango (2011) and I Am Number Four (2011), among others.

He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States to college teacher John Vernon Olyphant and Katherine Lyon Gideon. He spent most of his childhood in Modesto, California. He is a good swimmer and started swimming at the age of 6 and got trained by the swim coach David Lohrke. He got into competitive swimming and later became a national swimmer. He graduated from Fred C. Beyer High School, Modesto, California. He studied fine arts at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and took acting classes at UC Irvine. He then moved to New York City to study acting and learnt acting from William Esper at William Esper Studio for two years. His last name Olyphant is the Highland Scottish Clan and is a descendent of Cornelius Vanderbilt through Emily Thorn Vanderbilt. He has a Russian Jewish, German, Dutch, Irish, English and Scottish ancestry.

He debuted in the off-Broadway production of The Monogamist and received an award for the Outstanding Debut Performance by the Theater World Award for his role of Tim Hapgood. On moving back to Los Angles, he landed his debut TV role in a pilot of 77 Sunset Strip, which was a remake of the original series. He then appeared in other series like Mr. & Mrs. Smith (1996), High Incident (1997), Sex and the City, and many more. In 1996, he made his feature film debut with the movie The First Wives Club. He caught attention after appearing in the 1997 horror film Scream 2. He has appeared in many other movies ever since. He was then cast as the lead Sheriff Seth Bullock in HBO’s TV series Deadwood for three seasons. He was the daily on-air sports commentator for Joe Escalante’s morning show on LA radio station Indie 103.1, until its closure in 2009. He joined the cast of FX series Justified in the spring of 2010 and portrays the role of Raylan Givens and is still doing the part.

Timothy married his long-time girlfriend and high school sweetheart, Alexis Knief, in July 1991. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, Grace Katherine on June 20, 1999. They have two more children, a son Henry and daughter Vivian. He currently lives with his wife and three children in Westwood, Los Angeles. Since he is married and has kids, all rumors of him being gay died down. The couple is still much in love and is living a great family life.
