Sarah Lancashire is an English television, film and theatre actress as her major profession so far by now. She has successfully presented andS directed for television. Beside that she is also well trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. he has been the first lady to begin prominent television role as Requel Wolstenhulme in the ITV1 television soap opera Coronation Street. She is a daughter of Goeffrey Lancashire (an early scriptwriter for Coronation Street). In 2005, she had made her debut as a television director for an episode of the anthology series The Afternoon Play, which had earned her first British Academy Television Award nomination. Apart from it, her further credits include “Blood Brothers”, “Educating Rita and Guys and Dolls”.
Sarah Lancashire was born on October 10, 1964 in Oldham, Lancashire, England. Her father Geoffrey was a television scriptwriter. He was the former scriptwriter for the soap opera Coronation Street and situation comedies such as The Cuckoo Waltz. Her mother Hilda used to work as Geoffrey's personal assistant. As for her siblings, she has three brothers, one elder, one younger and a third as her twin. From her early time, she had low confidence to face the world, for which she had to face much struggle in her starting life. In an interview, she had made a statement saying that her mother’s best hopes for her were that she would meet a nice man in her future. She had no choice to pursue her career in acting field until she was 18 years old. In initial time, she preferred to stay behind the scenes in television. But, after applying for and winning a place at the Guilhall School of Music and Drama, she realized that she actually enjoyed acting. She graduated from Guildhall School in 1986. In her final year, Lancashire had written to much repertory theatre companies throughout the United Kingdom but sadly she received lots of rejections. Later she was given her first acting role straight out of drama school by Howard Lloyd-Lewis, artistic director of the Manchester Library Theatre Company, which also provided her with an Equity Card. Later she performed two plays with the company Pacific Overtures and The Beauty Game, which she states formed "the start of my career as an actor". In order to support herself financially she worked as a drama teacher for five years at Salford University alongside her acting work. In 1987, one year into her acting career, she made a brief appearance in Coronation Street as nurse Wendy Farmer, who applied to lodge with regular character Jack Duckworth (Bill Tarmey) only to be turned away by his wife, Vera (Liz Dawn).At the end of 1980s she also appeared in an episode of the children's anthology series Dramarama.
In 1990 Lancashire got her "big break"from the role of Linda in a production of Willy Russell's Blood Brothers at the Albery Theatre in London's West End. Two weeks after finishing her run in Blood Brothers Lancashire auditioned for the role of new Coronation Street character Raquel Wolstenhulme, a colleague of supermarket employee Curly Watts (Kevin Kennedy).
