American news personality Rudi Bakhtiar is the first Iranian American journalist to host a prime time news hour in the U.S. Her birth date is said to be June 21, 1966, although it has not been confirmed officially. She worked at the CNN network and is best known for hosting CNN Headline News Tonight. She is also the senior advisor at the Voice of America. She also works at the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran as the Director of Communications, based in Washington, D.C.

She was born in California to Iranian immigrants. When she was 2, they moved to Los Angeles, California. At the age of 5, her family moved back to Iran and stayed there for most of her childhood. She has a younger brother and an even younger sister. She is an American by nationality and follows Islam as her religion. Her great grandfather was Sardar Jang. She was the anchor for CNN’s coverage on the September 11 terrorist attack. She left CNN for Fox News on 2006. During her work there, she covered important international news events such as trial and execution of Saddam Hussein,Ahmadinejad-al-Maliki summit, and many others. She became the first director of Public Relations for the Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA). The organization works to raise the voices of Iranian Americans in the political and public arena. She produced Profiles of Iranian American, a mini documentary which focused on the lives on successful Iranian Americans. She was kicked out of the organization for her strong stand on Iran’s human rights violations. She has been awarded with many honors and awards and received the Iranian American Republican Council Achievement Award for her outstanding work within the Iranian community.
