One of the best figure skaters in the world, Robin Cousins was born on August 17, 1957. He is a British former competitive figure skater. His flawless skating made him the winner of the 1980 Olympics and 1980 European Championship. He is a three time World Medalist, for three consecutive years from 1978 to 1980 and is a four time British national champion, for four consecutive years 1977, 1978, 1979 and 1980. He serves as the head judge on ITV’s Dancing on Ice, since 2006 and commented on BBC’s figure skating events. Besides skating, he has also appeared in theater productions. He got inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 2005.

He was born in Bistrol, United Kingdom. His mother, Jo, was a secretary and his father, Fred, was a civil servant and a former goalkeeper for Millwall. He was always passionate about skating and started taking lessons from Pamela Davis. Under her training he went into his first World Championship and ranked 15th. He then moved to London and changed his trainer. He had to work at a department store stacking shelves to support for his training.

His first ice skating competition was at the age of 9 at Westover Road Ice Rink. He won his first national title on the novice level in 1969, when he was just 12 years old.  He became Britain’s junior champion at the age of 14 and it was then he made his first international debut. As an amateur skater he represented the United Kingdom for eight years and won four consecutive World Championships. He won silver medals two times in 1979 and 1980 World Championships. He is a three times winner of the free skating part of the World Championship, from 1978 to 1980. He reached the prime of his career as he won gold medal in the European Championship and Winter Olympics Game held in Lake Placid, New York in 1980. As a professional ice skater, he has starred in skating shows like Ice Capades, Holiday on Ice and World Professional Championships. He has a Guinness World Records in his name which he kept on Novermber 16, 1983 by hitting the longest axel jump, reaching 5.81 m and longest back flip, reaching 5.48 m, on figure skates. He created his own ice skating performance company in 1983. He has starred in, directed, choreographed and directed many international ice shows like Sleeping Beauty on Ice, Toy Story on ice, The Nutcracker: A Fantasy on Ice, The Wizard of Oz on Ice, among others. He has also performed on stage on plays Cinderella, Cats, The Rocky Horror Show and others. His trademark move is the backflip.

Cousins has maintained his silence about his personal life. He prefers not to disclose it to the public and has been successful in keeping it that way. There is no information about his marital status and it is yet to be known if he is married, has a wife/girlfriend or is dating someone. Due to the nature of his work, he has sometimes been rumored to be gay. But it can’t be known for sure. He is currently living in Brighton, United Kingdom.
