Maxwell Trowbridge Gail, Jr., better known by his professional name Max Gail is an American actor who has starred in stage, television, and film roles. He was born in the year 1943 and celebrates his birthday on April 5, every year. He is best known for his portrayal of Detective Stan "Wojo" Wojciehowicz on the television sitcom Barney Miller.

Gail is a native of Detroit, Michigan, United States of America as he was born there. He was welcomed to the family as the son of Mary Elizabeth (Scanlon) and Maxwell Trowbridge Gail, a businessman. Gail has a twin sister, Mary Gail who is an actress. He grew up in Grosse Ile, Michigan. Has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a Masters in International Finance. He went to Williams College, and was an instructor for the University Liggett School before venturing into acting.

He debuted into acting in the year 1970 for The Little Fox Theatre in San Francisco, California, playing the role of Chief Bromden in the original stage production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. In 1973, he reprised this role in his New York stage debut. In 1957, he landed the role of Det. Stan "Wojo" Wojciehowicz in the sitcom Barney Miller which eventually became his best known television role. His best known feature film role was in the 1983 movie D.C. Cab as Harold, the owner of the D.C. Cab taxi company. In 1984, he was featured in the monodrama "The Babe" on Broadway. This stage play was filmed and later featured on PBS. Gail has starred in several other television series such as Whiz Kids (1983) as "Llewellan Farley, Jr.", an investigative reporter, short-lived Normal Life (1990), the series Sons & Daughters (2006) and many others. Gail has made many television guest appearances on shows such as Due South, Dr. Quinn, Psych, The Streets of San Francisco, The Drew Carey Show, Medicine Woman,  Quantum Leap, Cannon, Paul Sand in Friends and Lovers, Gary Unmarried and NCIS. In the 2013 film 42, Gail appeared as Brooklyn Dodgers manager Burt Shotton. Furthermore, Gail runs a production company Full Circle, which has featured documentaries on such subjects as Native Americans, Agent Orange, and nuclear issues.

Talking about his personal life, Gail is a married man. He married to Willie Bier on 12 February, 1983 but unfortunately, she died of cancer, after just three years of marriage in 1986. He has a daughter named India with her. In 1989, he got married for the second time. This time to Nan Harris. The couple has been blessed with two children Maxwell (born 1990) and Grace (born 1993). He seems to be enjoying his married life to the fullest and from the looks of it, divorce is certainly out of the picture for many more years to come.
