Frankie Russell Faison, commonly known as simply Frankie Faison, is an American actor for the television and film. He was born in the year 1949 and celebrates his birthday on 10th of June, every year. He is best known for his portrayal of Deputy Commissioner Ervin Burrell on the popular HBO crime drama series The Wire. He has also done a notable work in films such as Hannibal and Silence of the Lambs.

He is a native of Newport News, Virginia, United States as he was born and spent most of his early life there. He was born as a son to father, Edgar Faison and mother, Carmena Faison. He went to Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington, Illinois to study drama and was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. Then, he attended Graduate Acting Program at the New York University. He graduated from there in the year 1974. In 2002, he received an honorary doctorate from his Illinois Wesleyan University and was the keynote speaker at the commencement ceremony.

He kicked start his acting career right after his graduation in 1974. His debut role was in King Lear, a production of the New York Shakespeare Festival. Then, in the year 1979, he landed his next role in the short lived TV series Hot Hero Sandwich. His first big screen appearance was in the 1980 movie, Permanent Vacation. After that, he went on to do many small roles in movies such as Maximum Overdrive, Coming to America, Do the Right Thing and many others. In 1987, he was nominated for the prestigious Broadway's Tony Award for Best Actor category for his role in the play, Fences. He played the character of Barney in the film The Silence of the Lambs. His role reappeared on the movies sequel Hannibal and prequel Red Dragon. He starred in the Fox situation comedy, True Colors, during its 1990-1991 season. He was cast as a regular on the science-fiction TV series, The Prey in 1998. His best role till date came as he was cast to play the role of Baltimore City Police Commissioner Ervin Burrell on The Wire, by HBO. From 2009 to 2012, he portrayed the role of Richard Evans on One Life to Live. Among his recent work, he has appeared in a few episodes of the popular CBS cop drama series Blue Bloods, Lie to Me, White Chicks and as Harlan in the movie Adam. Currently, he stars as Sugar Bates on the Cinemax show Banshee and is still keeping up the good work.
