Ellie Kemper is an American actress for the big and small screen. She was born in the year 1980 and celebrates her birthday on 2nd of May every year. She is most known for her portrayal of Erin Hannon in the popular NBC series The Office. She is also well recognized for her roles in movies such as 21 Jump Street and Bridesmaids. Currently, she is involved in the upcoming comedy series Unbreakable Schmidt by NBC.
She is a native of Kansas City, Missouri, United States of America as she was born and spent her early life there and moved to St. Louis when she was five years old. She was born as the second child to David Woods Kemper who was the chairman and chief executive officer of Commerce Bancshares, founded by the Kemper family and Dorothy Ann Kemper and is the granddaughter of Mildred Lane Kemper. Her younger sister Carrie Kemper is a television writer. About her education, she went to the Conway School in the St. Louis suburb of Ladue and received her high school education at John Burroughs School. It was during that time that she developed an interest in theater and improvisational comedy and was named the Queen of St. Louis's annual Veiled Prophet Bal in 1999. Thereafter, she attended Princeton University where her passion in improvisational comedy deepened. Kemper graduated from there in 2002 with a degree in English. Then she studied English for a year at the University of Oxford.
While at Princeton, she participated in an improv comedy group called Quipfire!, and a touring musical comedy theater troupe, the Princeton Triangle Club. She also used to play field hockey at Princeton but quit the team in later years to focus on theater. She started appearing regularly in comedy sketches on Late Night with Conan O'Brien in the late 2000s, and made guest appearances on Important Things with Demetri Martin, and The Gastineau Girls by E! Television's which has often been described as her "breakout role". As she moved to New York City, she participated in the People's Improv Theatre and the city troupe of Upright Citizens Brigade appearing in several shows for the Brigade. She auditioned for a spot on the NBC sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live, in August 2008 but unfortunately was not cast. She gained some internet fame for a humor video on the sketch comedy site Derrick Comedy with her part in "Blowjob Girl", in August 2007, circulated on the popular site CollegeHumor. Kemper has also appeared in the comedy-drama Somewhere in 2010 and How to Kick People. She had originally auditioned for a role in an NBC comedy series, Parks and Recreation. She was not cast and instead received a call back to audition for a supporting role in The Office as Erin Hannon and was cast in the role and started appearing in the show in April 2009. Although her character was originally intended for only 4 episodes, that was enough to impress the producers and she was signed her as a regular in the sixth season. Besides that, she has also written several sketch comedy shows and is a contributing writer for the national satirical newspaper The Onion, and for McSweeney's as well.
Kemper became engaged to her long time boyfriend Michael Koman in 2011 and married him on July 7, 2012. Her husband is a former writer on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and the co-creator of the Adult Swim series Eagleheart and Comedy Central series Nathan for You.
