Born Edward Louis Severson III in Chicago suburb of Evanston, Illinois to Edward Louis Severson, Jr. and Karen Lee Vedder, his parents divorced when he was still an infant. His mother married Peter Mueller. When he was seven years old he moved to San Diego County, California with his three younger half-brothers and his family. He continued to stay with his step-father even when they had already divorced. He started living on his own by his senior year at San Dieguito High School. He gave up studies because he could not manage time and finally returned to his family in Chicago. It was then; he adopted his mother’s maiden name Vedder. He returned to San Diego, California in 1984 to pursue a career in music and was the vocalist of the progressive funk rock band Bad Radio.

He left the band and remained without a band for the rest of 80s. His friend Jack Irons, former Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer, gave him a demo tape from a band in Seattle looking for a vocalist. Eddie listened to the tape and penned three songs, recorded them and sent them back to Seattle. He was then accepted into the band and Vedder provided back vocals for them in the beginning. The band Pearl was formed in 1990 by Grossard, Ament and McCready recruiting Vedder as the last member to join the band. It was certified 13x Platinum and its single Jeremy got the band their first Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Song. He released his cover of the famous ballad by J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers to public by popular demand in 1999. This single peaked at number 2 on the Billboard chart and was the band’s highest charting single. The band released four albums Binaural (2000), Riot Act (2002), Pearl Jam (2004) and Backspacer (2009). Their latest album Lightning Bolt released on 2013.

He got married in 1994 to his long-time girlfriend, musician Beth Liebling but got divorced in 2000. He took a long break and finally got married to Jill McCormick in 18 September, 2010. His wife is a model. They have two daughters Olivia (age 9) and Harper (age 6).
