Chonda Pierce is an American Christian comedian, author, television host and singer. She was born as Chonda Courtney but is commonly known by her professional name Chonda Pierce and is often billed as ‘The Queen of Clean’. She is an active member of the Christian Comedy Association. Besides her work as a comedian, she is a spokesperson for World Vision and works with several other Christian leaders and organizations. She penned the book called Laughing in the Dark: A Comedian's Journey Through Depression, where she wrote about her struggle as she went into depression at one point in her life and has also written seven other books.
Her birth date too is not known. She was born on Covington, Kentucky, United States as a preacher’s kid. She has often said that she had a troublesome childhood because her father was struggling with depression and her mother had to keep the family functioning in a normal way. As a young girl, she served as a preacher’s kid and comes from a world of hell fire preaching and wooden pews. No doubt, she is a devout Christian and has American nationality. She had two siblings, Charlotta and Michael and unfortunately lost Charlotta to a head-on collision. Soon after that, her father left them and Michael too went away to get married. Her mother was then diagnosed with leukemia and died a month later. Within less than two years, the family of four was reduced to two. About her education, she studied at Austin Peay State University and had major in Theater Arts.
While she was still in college, she started as a comedian, partly because she had to pay for the college. She got her first break as she was allowed to work at a theme park in Nashville, Tennessee called Opryland USA and performed as Grand Ole Opry star Minnie Pearl. She was not very good at dancing, so to make up for that fact, she had to memorize jokes from Grinders Switch and impersonate Cousin Minnie Pearl. She worked there for six years, doing comedy and making people laugh. By then, she had realized that comedy was what she did best. To establish herself as a comedian, she recorded Second Row, Piano Side. She has released many comedy albums till now and her tenth comedy album I’m Kind of a Big Deal was released in September 2011. Her DVDs are sought after and she has eight titles has been certified gold, and four titles have been certified platinum by the RAIA. She has also served as the co-host of the popular program, Aspiring Women, a talk show by Total Living Network for which she received five Daytime Emmy nominations. Besides that, she has also appeared on The Wanda Sykes Show, the View, Life Today and The Mike Huckabee Show as well. She frequently tours many parts of the United States and has concerts internationally too. Her comedy segments are also regularly featured on Blue Collar Comedy 103 by Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Radio’s Laugh USA. She has authored a total of eight books.
Chonda is married to David. She had met her future husband in high school and he was her high school sweetheart. Currently, he works as an English professor. The couple soon welcomed their first child, a daughter, Chera Kay, and that brought smile to Chonda’s face. Her happiness doubled when their son Zachary was born. She now lives a happy family life in her cozy Tennessee home kicking away the rumors of divorce.
