Robert Patrick Petrino nicknamed "Bobby" is an American football coach. At present he is the head coach at Louisville. During his career as a coach he has coached the University of Arkansas from 2008 to 2011 until his dismissal in the spring of 2012. Additionally he also has coached the Atlanta Falcons of the NFL for part of the 2007 season; before his current stint, Petrino also served as head coach at the University of Louisville from 2003 to 2006. Despite of coaching football as college and pro levels for more than 3 decades, he is still better known for his off-the-field troubles above his successes as a coach.

Bobby was he was born on March 10, 1961 in Lewistown, Montana. He spent his childhood in Helena. After graduating from Capital High in Helena, Bobby attended a local college - Carroll College. He graduated in 1983 having earned degrees in mathematics and PE.

It is said that wide-open Montana skies of Helena encouraged Bobby to ultimately become one of the top offensive football coaches in football history. For his educational background, he has graduated from Capital High School in 1979. Later he attended hometown Carroll College and graduated with a physical education and a math minor in 1983.

There is a surprising term in his career span, which says he had never stayed in one job for long time as he had been moving from one job to another. But finally while playing at Carroll, he got chance to play  quarterback for the Fighting Saints and began his coaching career there as a graduate assistant during the 1983 season. After a year at Carroll, he moved to Weber State College in the Big Sky Conference, coaching quarterbacks as a graduate assistant under head coach Mike Price. Petrino has also spent a year as quarterbacks coach at the University of Idaho in 1989 under new head coach John L. Smith, then was promoted to offensive coordinator. In 1995 he moved to the University of Nevada, serving as both offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under Chris Ault.

Petrino's reputation began to grow as a great offensive play caller. As a result, he was offered a job in Division I as Assistant Coach for Wide Receivers and Tight Ends at Weber State. Then, later in 1989, Petrino became QB coach, and after a year, Offensive Coordinator at the University of Idaho. After success there, Petrino entered the world of "big time" college football in 1992, as QB coach for the Pac-10's Arizona State University Sun Devils. for the first time in his career, Petrino met with failure at Atlanta. The Falcons went 3-10 under Petrino. It was turbulent season as the Falcons lost star QB Michael Vick to the famous dog-fighting scandal.


Petrino returned to Louisville in 2003 as head coach, replacing John L. Smith, who departed for Michigan State. It was when he got chance to work as head coach for football players.
