Bonds has received seven NL MVP awards and 14 All-Star selections and is ranked second in career WAR among all major league position players by both Fangraphs and Baseball-Reference.com, behind only Babe Ruth. He was considered as an extraordinary hitter, and finished his regular season career with a very high on-base percentage of .444) and isolated power of .309. He holds several MLB hitting records, such as most home runs in a single season (73, set in 2001), most career walks, and most career home runs. Bonds also received eight Gold Gloves for his defense in the outfield.

Bonds highly successful career has not been devoid of baseball's steroids scandal. In the year 2007, he was indicted on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice for allegedly lying to the grand jury during the federal government's investigation of BALCO. The perjury charges against Bonds were dropped, but he was convicted of obstruction of justice, pending an appeal. Despite his accomplishments, he was not elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.

Barry is a native of Riverside, California, United States of America as he was born and spent most of his early life there. He was welcomed to the family of former major leaguer Bobby Bonds and Patricia Howard. Bonds was raised in San Carlos, California and went to Junípero Serra High School in San Mateo, California. There he was an excellent basketball, baseball, and football player and even played on the junior varsity team during his freshman year and the remainder of his high school career. He continued playing baseball while attending Arizona State University and was a 1984 Sporting News All-American. In 1986, he graduated from Arizona State and received a degree in criminology. During college, he played part of one summer with the Alaska Goldpanners in the amateur Alaska Baseball League. His younger brother, Bobby, Jr., was also a professional baseball player.

His professional baseball career in the MLB started when he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates as the sixth overall pick of the 1985 Major League Baseball Draft. He played for the pirates until 1993 and left them to sign a profitable free agent contract worth a then-record $43.75 million over six years with the Giants. On September 21, 2007, the San Francisco Giants confirmed that they would not re-sign Bonds for the 2008 season. After that, there was much speculation about where Bonds might play, however, no one signed him during the 2008 or 2009 seasons.

In August 1987, Barry met Susann "Sun" Margreth Branco in Montreal, Quebec. The next year on February 5, they eloped to Las Vegas and got married. They separated in June 1994, and their divorce was finalized in December 1994. The Catholic Church annulled their marriage in 1997. He has two children Nikolai and Shikari, with her. Watson filed for Legal Separation on June 9, 2009. He has a daughter, Aisha, with her. Six weeks later, on July 21, 2009, Watson announced that she was withdrawing her Legal Separation action and the couple subsequently reconciled for seven months before Watson formally filed for divorce February on 26, 2010, in Los Angeles, California which was settled on June 6, 2011.  At the start of 2015, he has accumulated total net worth amount of $80 million dollars.
