Anderson Hays Cooper celebrates his birthday on June 3 every year and was born in 1967. He is an American television personality, journalist and author. He is best known as the primary anchor of the popular CNN news program Anderson Cooper 360°. He has also hosted his own syndicated daytime talk show Anderson Live and is also known for his work on American Morning and World News Now.
He is a native of New York City, United States and was born and raised there. He was welcomed to the family as the younger son of Gloria Vanderbilt, an artist, writer, heiress and designer and Wyatt Emory Cooper, a writer. He completed his high school education from Dalton School in New York City, graduating a semester early at the age of 17. He received his bachelors of arts degree in political science from Yale University. He resided in Trumbull College and graduated from Yale in the year 1989. He is an American by nationality.
Anderson had media experience form a very young age. He even worked as a model during his pre-teen years. While he was still in college, he interned at Central Intelligence Agency for two summers. He preferred a career in journalism, despite not having journalistic education to working at the agency. He started his career during the early 90s as a correspondence worker. Upon his graduation, he tried to work with ABC but was rejected. Disappointed, he chose another way and made a fake press pass which he used to document the students fight against government in Myanmar. He was working at Channel One then and was able to sell the news to the channel. Then he started reporting from Burma. He then lived in Vietnam for a year studying Vietnamese language and assembling and filming reports of Vietnamese culture, life and war torn regions which aired on Channel One.
After that, he joined ABC News in 1995 and was positioned as the co-anchor of World News Now. He became the host of ABC's reality show The Mole in 2000 and was also the fill-in co-anchor for Live with Regis and Kelly. Then he started working for CNN as the co-anchor of American Morning and later had his own show Anderson Cooper 360° and has covered important news events for the channel ever since. He started hosting the syndicated talk show Anderson Live since its premier on 12 September, 2001 until its end on May 20, 2013. He served as a correspondent of 60 minutes on the CBS News. He has written many articles as a freelance writer and published his memoir titled Dispatches form the Edge in May 2006. The following month, the book topped the New York Times bestseller list.
Anderson kept his personal life hidden from the public for many years. But now, he talks openly about it. He came out to the public as same-sex marriage became legal in New York in July 2011. He has now established himself as one of the most prominent gay news personality. His partner, Benjamin Maisini, is an owner of a gay bar. They had been dating since 2009. Since he is gay, he does not have a wife and is not married as well. He enjoys watching football with his partner during his free time.
