Julia Mancuso ~ Biography

Julia Mancuso nicknamed as “Super Jules” is a World Cup alpine ski racer with the USA ski team who was born in March 9, 1984, in Reno, Nevada but she spent most of her childhood in Kauai, Hawaii and Squaw Valley, California. Her father, Ciro Mancuso was arrested and convicted of running heavy amount of marijuana when she was five years old. Her parents divorced in 1992 and after release of her father from prison in 2000, Julia and her father became close.

 Julia Mancuso graduated from, The Winter Sports School in park city, Utah in 2000. She began skiing competitively at an early age. When she was 15 years old, Julia made her World Cup debut in November 1999. Over the course of several Junior World Championships, Julia racked up an impressive eight medals in which five were gold and three were bronze. At 2006 Olympic, she became the first American woman in eight years to win a gold medal in an alpine event. At the start of the off-season, Julia endured arthroscopic surgery on her right hip to remove an inch-long bone spur on the ball of the joint. By the start of 2007 season she was almost fully recovered. After first few weeks of disappoint results she worked back into race shape, the 2007 season would turn out to be Julia’s breakout year in world cup circuit. She won a silver medal in 2007 World Championships in Are, Sweden. She eventually finished the season in third place overall, the best finish by an American woman since Tamara Mckinney in 1984 until Lindsey Vonn won the overall title in 2008. 

Talking about her personal life she is not married yet so there is no point in talking about her husband and divorce. At 2009 she started dating a ski racer champion from Norway named Aksel Lund Svindal. She dated Aksel Lund Svindal for almost four years, until they decided to go their separate ways in September of 2013. Julia loves the ocean life in Maui, where she spends most of her time when not traveling around the world. She is a big fan of stand-up paddling, surfing and yoga.

Julia always had a thing for acting in front of camera. She has been a star in couple of movies of Warren Miller. One of which is “Like There’s No Tomorrow” which is about the reminder that winter is on its way and with it four months of an adrenaline-fueled dance with gravity. Featuring world-class athletes like Colby West, Julia Mancuso and Chris Davenport. She also jumped into the business world by designing and selling her own line of bikini and underwear while also owning and running a gym in Lake Tahoe. She also signed on to be an official ambassador of the Nature Valley NASTAR event property. As being a sports personality and owner of a gym Julia does a lot of exercise on and off seasons. But her favorite gym moves are Back Extension, Wood Chop and Single-leg Squat. Julia doesn’t rely on exercise to stay in great shape, diet is really important for her. She eats organic, healthy balanced diet. So she mostly rely in vegies, greens and lean meats but when she’s craving something less healthy a bar of chocolate is best thing for her. Not only healthy she is one of the most beautiful athletes in the world. While going out she wears light make up and does her hair either long straight cut or medium wavy cut.

Julia has got very long list of awards and achievement in her sporting career. She was nominated for Best US Female Olympian ESPY Award and also in Best US Olympian ESPY Award. Her career accomplishments are three Olympic medals in which one was gold, five world championships medals, seven world cup wins and 35 world cup podiums. She also has been involved in number of charitable cause. At June 2008, Julia with her best friend Chemmy Alcott,  Mark Weaver and Us skier Laurenne Ross climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in an effort to raise funds for the international humanitarian organization Right to play. After that she spent two days visiting three of “Dar es Salaam”, Tanzania’s most under-privileged schools and an orphanage. She also organized an auction around the time of 2009 World Cup Championships to help raise more funds for Right to play and her other charity, World Wildlife Fund.
