Jacksonville State University (JSU) is a regional public, co-educational university situated in Jacksonville, Alabama, United States of America. It was founded in the year 1883 as Jacksonville State Normal School.  In 1930, the name was changed to Jacksonville State Teachers College before becoming Jacksonville State College in 1957. It finally began operating as Jacksonville State University in 1967. Jacksonville State University offers programs of study in five academic units leading to undergraduate, graduate, education specialist and doctorate degrees in addition to continuing and distance education programs. Jacksonville State University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). In addition to that, 40 academic programs earned specialized programmatic accreditations. JSU boasts of its Houston Cole Library collection which consists of more than 600,000 titles and uses the state of the art technology. Besides proving quality education, JSU serves the students through Small Business and Development Center, Wellness Center, Mail Center, In-Service Education Center, Health Center and many more.

The academic programs at Jacksonville State University consists of more than 45 degree programs, including bachelor's, master's, post-baccalaureate, doctoral and advanced certificate programs provided through Jacksonville State's six academic colleges.  The College of Arts and Sciences offers courses in humanities, arts, and sciences to support the University’s general studies curriculum and educational programs, as well as traditional liberal arts, professional, and graduate programs of study leading to baccalaureate degrees, master’s degrees, and the University’s first doctoral degree in Emergency Management. The College of Education and Professional Studies offers diversity of programs in Communications, Education, Family & Consumer Sciences, Health, Physical Education, & Recreation, and Technology & Engineering, designed to assist students in developing skills in critical thinking/problem solving, innovation/creativity, communication, and collaboration. The College of Commerce & Business Administration offers the Bachelor of Science degree with majors in Accounting, Business Economics, Finance, Management (concentrations are available in Human Resource Management and Information Management/E-Commerce), and Marketing; Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Economics with minors in accounting, business economics, finance, business administration, information management/ecommerce, international business, management, marketing, and urban economics/real estate development. The Lurleen B. Wallace College of Nursing offers Bachelor of Science in Nursing, STEP (RN to BSN), Master of Science in Nursing Programs and Graduate Certificates. The College of Graduate Studies offers nine different degrees with twenty-seven majors at the master's level, the post-master's Education Specialist degree with five majors, five graduate certificates, and a Doctor of Science degree in Emergency Management.

In addition to providing quality education, the Jacksonville State University also makes sure that the students have a thriving college life and create lifelong memories. The students are encouraged to get involved on several campus activities in various areas. JSU ensures that the students get to experience Greek Life through 19 social fraternities and sororities to promote leadership, scholarship, friendship, and service. The campus organizations include athletic support group, fraternities and sororities, media, special interest, professional department clubs, religious and service organizations. The Honors Program at Jacksonville State University provides academically gifted students with an enriched educational experience in a diverse range of courses that foster independent, critical thinking and effective communication. The International House program is a unique part of JSU campus life where each international student is roomed with an American student. JSU provides health services through University Health Center which is a primary health care facility that provides outpatient medical services as well as promotes preventive health measures to currently enrolled students, faculty, staff and currently active JSU Alumni. The university also provides excellent dining facilities and on-campus living. Besides all these, JSU is also known for its sports activities and is the only school in the nation to lay claim to NCAA national titles in football, men's basketball and baseball at the Division I or Division II levels. Known as The Gamecocks, they won an NCAA Division II men's basketball crown in 1985 before claiming back-to-back baseball crowns in 1990 and 1991. They capped the trio in 1992, when they won the football national title. JSU also won the Division II Gymnastics crown in 1984 and 1985. Recreational Sports is also available through intramurals and fitness programs in Zumba Training, Step Aerobics, TRX Training and Yoga offering opportunities for JSU students to live healthier lifestyles.
