Hawai’i Pacific University often referred to as HPU is a not-for-profit, private, non-sectarian, co-educational international learning community set in the rich cultural context of Hawai'i. It is located in Honolulu and Kaneohe, in the U.S. state of Hawaii. Hawaii Pacific University was founded as Hawai?i Pacific College in the year 1965 by Eureka Forbes, Paul C.T. Loo, Elizabeth W. Kellerman, and Reverend Edmond Walker. Hawai?i Pacific continued to expand and develop since its establishment and became Hawai?i Pacific University (HPU) in 1990. Hawaii Pacific University has now grown to become the largest private university in the central Pacific and is mostly known for its diverse student body of nearly 7,000 students, representing nearly 80 countries. Hawai'i Pacific University is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and has a number of additional accreditations and memberships from nationally recognized groups. Hawai?i Pacific University has two main campuses in addition to an Oceanic Institute and Military programs. HPU's downtown Honolulu campus serves most of the business, liberal arts, and other general programs; while the Hawai?i Loa campus on the windward side of the Ko?olau Range houses the majority of the science programs.

HPU offers more than 50 acclaimed undergraduate programs, and 14 distinguished graduate programs. Education at Hawai?i Pacific University is based on a traditional liberal arts foundation provided through four colleges. HPU offers both undergraduate and graduate programs in each of its colleges and schools. The College of Business Administration offers numerous undergraduate degrees in addition to four graduate degrees. The College of Humanities and Social Sciences if further divided into School of Education and School of Social work and consists of Arts and Humanities, Communication, English, History, Language and Applied Science, Psychology and Social Sciences departments as a whole. The College of Nursing and Health consists of the Department of Baccalaureate Nursing Programs, Department of Health Sciences and Department of Graduate and Post-Baccalaureate Nursing Programs. The College of Natural and Computational Sciences offers Bachelor’s in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Marine Biology, Mathematics and Oceanography and graduate degree in Marine Science. Besides these, the university also has an extensive Distance Learning and Online programs. HPU also has Study Abroad and Student Exchange Program.

HPU not only provides quality education but also ensures that the students enjoy their student life, no matter how brief it is, for academic, personal, and professional development of the students. The college encourages students to take part in numerous co-curricular and social options that enhance the overall educational experience. For this, HPU has numerous recognized clubs, organizations and associations. Hawaii Pacific University also gives the students a chance to enjoy the Greek life with through numerous honor societies such as Alpha chi, Delta Mu Delta, Lambda Pi Eta, Alpha Epsilon Delta, Pi Lambda Theta, Upsilon Pi Epsilon, Sigma Tau Delta, Kappa Mu Epsilon, are a few among many others. It has residence facility provided to its students at the Hawaii Loa campus that houses around thirty students in each suite style hall with either double-occupancy or triple-occupancy rooms. The on-campus housing complex provides full academic year accommodations for students in six residence halls. The university also provides several student services via Academic Advising, Bookstore, Career Services, Leadership Development Programs, International Student Services, Military Campus Programs, Disability Resources Office, Placement Testing, Tutoring, UniCard and many others. The university has its own student newspaper since 1969 called the Kalamalama which is both part of an academic curriculum and a business environment. HPU is equally popular for various sports activities and its teams are known as the Sharks. Hawaii Pacific University competes in the Pacific West Conference as a part of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II. The university previously competed in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NCIA) before joining the NCAA in the mid-1990s. In addition to its affordable fees, the University also provides financial aid opportunities which keep it within the reach of every qualified student. The financial aid comes in the form of grants which need not be paid back, loans that must be repaid, scholarships awarded to academically deserving students and work-study opportunities that allow working and earning money.
