Georgetown University is a private, nonprofit, research coeducational university established on January 23, 1789. Holding the geographic location in Washington, D.C, United States of America, the university is currently functioning John under the presidency of John J. DeGioia. With the motto “Both into One” the university holds a glorious history of more than two centuries. The University shelters 2,173 (1,291 fulltime and 882 part time) academic staffs, 1,500 administration staffs and 17,849 postgraduates and undergraduates students. 7,636 undergraduates and 10,213 postgraduates students are the part of prestigious Georgetown University currently.  

Georgetown University stands as the first-born Jesuit and Catholic University in the United States. The central campus of the university is situated in Washington’s Georgetown neighborhood. It is renowned for Healy Hall, a National Historic Landmark in the Romanesque revival style. Georgetown University functions a law center located in Capitol Hill. It also operates supplementary campuses in Italy, Turkey and Qatar.

John Carroll, America’s first Catholic bishop, came up with an idea of establishing a college, after realizing the previous efforts to start a Roman Catholic college in Maryland which had been disillusioned by various religious affairs. He sketched the existence of Georgetown University for the very first time. The credit of expanding the college goes to Patrick Francis Healy, who is also called as Georgetown University’s second founder. The university caught the speed of expansion after the American Civil War under Patrick’s management. Jesuits have taken officially taken part in the university’s management since 1805, but the college has always performed under the governance of Society of Jesus and church authorities.

The university has been managed by church authorities. Georgetown University was established by earlier Jesuits in the custom of Ignatius of Loyola. The university is the member of Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. Georgetown University isn’t a prelatic university even six Jesuits assist on the thirty-six member Board of Directors, the university’s highest governance.
