Wayne County Community College District is one of the best community colleges located in Downtown Detroit, Michigan, United States. The college was founded in the year 1967 by the Legislature of the State of Michigan. In the following year of its establishment, its initial seven-member Board of Trustees was elected. The first operating budget of $1,000,000 was granted from the State of Michigan. Besides this, it also received $300,000 stipend from New Detroit, Inc. Initially, the college had no buildings or facilities of its own. But with the cooperation of local school boards, classrooms were built and made available throughout the County of Wayne. The board of Trustees directed the staff members to set up classes for the first fall semester in the summer of 1969. After that, the instructors were hired, curricula were designed and finally the college opened its doors.

Wayne County Community College District offers various course programs. The college offers following semesters which fall in the month of August to December. It has total 16 week courses and next fall in the month of January to May which also includes 16 week courses and finally the last offering was made available to the students in the month of May to July and May to August. This college has total campuses: Eastern, Downtown, Downriver, Northwest, Western and University Square. Firstly the Eastern Campus is situated on Detroit’s eastside. It is located at 5901 Connor on the Connor Road just north side of Warren Avenue at I-94 freeway exit. The next campus downtown campus is situated at 1001 West Fort Street in downtown Detroit. Likewise, the Downriver Campus is based on 100 acres (0.40 km2) in Taylor, Michigan. The fourth campus ‘Northwest Campus’ was initially located on Greenfield Road just south of Joy Road. The campus moved to new location at 8200 West Outer Drive west side of Southfield Freeway in August 2008. The fifth campus ‘Western Campus’ is situated at the corner of Haggerty and I-94 in Van Buren Township, Michigan. Initially, the campus was established in 1981 and later was expanded with 43,000 square foot in 2008. The final campus ‘University Square’ is located at 19305 Vernier Road in Harper Woods. This campus is originally known as Grosse Pointe/ Harper Woods Campus Center which has original location at Eastland Mall in Harper Woods.

This college has wide mission of empowering individuals, businesses and communities for the accomplishment of their goals through excellent accessible services, culturally diverse experiences and globally competitive higher education & career advancement programs. Through its wide mission, it has been successful to attract the students to get admitted in this college. Like its wide mission, it also has vision of getting recognition as a comprehensive multi-campus community college district in the national and international world. Currently, the college is offering various programs like Academic & Career Programs, Nursing Program, Surgical Technology Program and Pharmacy Technology Program. All the students have freedom to choice over these programs. Likewise, the college has various divisions like Administration & Finance, Bookstore, District Police Authority, Educational Affairs, Distance Learning, Facilities, Financial Aid, Government Relations, Human Resource, Information Technology, Institutional effectiveness, Learning Resource Center, Office of Institutional Advancement, School of Continuing Education and Student Services. Through all these divisions, all the students enrolling in the college has been benefited with various services and facilities. This has made the life of the students simple and comfortable. The tuition fees of the students are based upon the residency. The Michigan residents has to pay $113 per credit hour, WCCCD District residents has to pay $102 per credit hour, out of state residents has to pay $143 per credit hour and International students has to pay $143 per credit hour. The college refunds the fees like student activity fees, technology fees, laboratory fees science laboratory fees and distance learning fees. Likewise, the non-refundable fees are registration, default, delinquent payment fee and duplicate Diploma. This college is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and schools.

The college has special service named ‘Student Support Services- ACCESS’ which provides supportive services to the needy students who are enrolling in career and technical programs. The resources for the students are made available according to the needs of individuals and coordinators assessment. The services include tutoring, visual aids, language interpreters and note takers and sign language interpreters. Likewise, the Disability Support Services is made available for the disable students to provide them with necessary tools which will be helpful to accomplish their educational and career goals.

With all its facilities and amenities, this college has certainly proved as one of the best colleges for the students. This college accepts admission from all the groups without any racial discrimination. The students are facilitated with well managed library which indeed helped all the students to get the knowledge about their courses and other information. Likewise, the surrounding of the college is beneficial for the students. It has quite and good environment which has helped the students to study their curriculum courses. The teachers are really supportive and motivating. The students are benefited with certain scholarships like American Association of University Women Wyandotte-Downriver Foundation Scholarship, Business Studies Scholarship, Dental Hygiene Scholarship, Humanities & Social Sciences Merit Scholarship, Nursing Scholarship, Surgical Technology Program Scholarship, Thomas Turner General Education Endowment Scholarship, Veterinary Technology Program Scholarships and WCCCD Achievement Scholarship. In terms of quality education and all required facilities for the students, this college is undoubtedly stands as one of best colleges of United States of America.
