Morehead State University (MSU) is an American public, co-educational institution for higher education, located in Morehead, Kentucky, United States of America. It was founded in the year 1887 as a church-supported teacher-training school called Morehead Normal School.  On being taken over by the state in 1922, the school’s name subsequently changed to Morehead State Normal School and teachers college in 1926. Then in 1940, it became Morehead State Teachers College in 1930 Morehead State College in 1948 before finally receiving a university status in 1966 to become Morehead State University. MSU was named one of the top 25 public universities in the South by the 2014 edition of "America's Best Colleges" by U.S. News & World Report for 10th straight year and the campus is ranked among the safest in the nation. Morehead State University delivers strong and affordable education for friendly, ambitious students who thrive in a student-focused learning environment defined by small class sizes and faculty committed to teaching and student success. Academically MSU offers degree programs are available on the two-year, four-year and graduate levels through four colleges. Morehead State University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.  The classes are offered on campus, at regional campus centers in Ashland, Mount Sterling, Prestonsburg and West Liberty, and several other locations in Eastern Kentucky and online.

Morehead State University offers a wide variety of academic programs at the undergraduate, graduate and a doctoral degree in education. It has 144 undergraduate degree programs including 12 pre-professional programs— 13 associate level degrees and 131 baccalaureate degrees and 78 graduate degree programs through four colleges. The Caudill College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences includes departments of Art and Design, Music, Theatre and Dance, Communication, Media and Leadership Studies, History, Philosophy and Legal Studies, International and Interdisciplinary Studies, English, Sociology, Social Work and Criminology and Military Science. The College of Business and Public Affairs includes Accounting, Economics and Finance, Information Systems, Management and Marketing, Master of Arts in Government, Master of Business Administration, Master of Public Administration, Government and Regional Analysis and Institute for Regional Analysis and Public Policy. The College of Education consists of Early Childhood, Elementary and Special Education, Middle Grades and Secondary Education, Foundational and Graduate Studies in Education, Child Development Associate and Master of Arts in Teaching. The  College of Science and Technology is provides degrees in Agricultural Sciences, Applied Engineering and Technology, Biology and Chemistry, Earth and Space Sciences, Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics, Psychology, Health, Wellness and Human Performance, Imaging Sciences, Nursing and Physician Assistant.

MSU not only provides quality education but is also dedicated to ensure that the students enjoy their student life for their academic, personal, and professional development. For this, the university has more than 100 recognized clubs and organizations. Morehead State University provides housing facility at 16 traditional residence halls, suites and apartments, spread throughout the campus housing nearly 3000 students and provides dining facility through student meal plans. The students at MSU get to experience Greek Life which helps students build lifelong friendships and give back to the community through Interfraternity Council (IFC) Fraternities, National Pan-Hellenic Council or NPHC (historically African-American) Fraternities & Sororities and Panhellenic Council Sororities. Morehead State University serves its student through International Student Services, Academic Advising, Recreation & Wellness Center, Intramurals, Counseling and Health Services, Career Services, and many others. Moreover, Morehead State Public Radio (MSPR) is governed by the Board of Regents at Morehead State University and is operated by its flagship station WMKY at 90.3 FM in Morehead. Morehead State is equally popular for various sports activities and its teams are known as the Eagles with Beaker as their mascot. The university is a charter member of the Ohio Valley Conference in National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division I and sponsors 18 intercollegiate sports for men and women.  In addition to its affordable fees, the University also provides financial aid opportunities to help students and families meet educational expenses that cannot be met through their own resources. The financial aid can be either need-based or non-need-based and comes in the form of grants which need not be paid back, loans that must be repaid, scholarships awarded to student's based on academic achievement and student employment that provides financial aid in return for employment at the University.

Morehead State University is located in the foothills of the Daniel Boone National Forest in Rowan County spread across an area of more than 700 acres main campus within the city limits of Morehead including more than 50 major structures. Located on an area of 168 acres campus at the heart of the city of Morehead, MSU currently serves more than 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students representing 108 Kentucky counties and 44 states.
