Located in Oakwood, Georgia, USA, ‘Lanier Technical College’ is a unit of ‘Technical College System of Georgia’. It provides educational services for seven-country service are in the north Georgia. Initially the school was named as Gainesville-Hall County Area Vocational Trade School after it was originally chartered by the ‘Georgia State Board of Education’ in December 1964. After ten months, the school changed its name as ‘Lanier Area Vocational-Technical School’. The first classes at the Lanier Technical College were held in the fall of 1966. Initially the classes were held in various local schools, churches and civic buildings. In January, 1967 the school moved to its first building at Oakwood, Georgia. The school has total four campuses except its first campus situated in Oakwood. ‘The Forsyth Campus’ located in Cumming was opened in the year 1998. Likewise, other campuses of the college were opened in the location of Winder, Commerce and Dawsonville respectively. In addition to its four campuses, it also offers additional ‘GED’ and ‘ESL” classes at various locations through the college’s seven-county service area. The college was converted from local to sate governance in 1988 and started to operate its administrative function under the direction of ‘Depatment of Technical and Adult Education (DTAE).

In 1998, the college opened its first satellite campus in Forsyth County. The college officially became ‘Lanier Technical College’ in after the institutes offered various associate degrees in 2000. ‘Michael D.Moye’ held the responsibility of president in 2002. Likewise, the interim president of the college was appointed as ‘Stephen A. Deraney’ in 2002. In the same year, another campus of the college ‘The Winder-Barrow Campus’ came into operation. In 2003, the ‘Jackson Campus (in commerce’ was opened. In addition to its three campuses, the fourth campus ‘The Dawson Campus’ was opened in Dawsonville in the year 2005.

The college is currently offering various certificates, diploma and degree programs. According to the report of DTAE, the total number of students studying various courses of this college is 5335. In addition to this, the number of students enrolled in noncredit courses reached to 6183 and the students enrolling in college’s adult literacy program are 848. Lanier Technical College is one of the largest technical college systems in the United States. In the year 2007, the college became an entity which is comprises of thirty four colleges under DTAE administration. The current working president of the college is ‘Russell Vandiver’ who was appointed in the year 2010.

The large number of student visits this college each year in a search of an academic excellence. The students must fulfill some criteria to get admitted in this college. To be eligible to get admission in this college, the students must be at least 16 years old. All the degree programs and other diploma and certificate programs requires ‘General Education Development (GED)’ or ‘high school diploma’ for admission. The students must have a high school diploma or GED. After the fulfillment of all criteria, the students will be eligible to get admission in the college.

Lanier Technical College offers various programs to the all the students. The popular programs of this college are ‘Dental hygiene’, ‘Practical nursing’ and ‘Motorsports vehicle technology’. The Motorsports vehicle technology is a program which started to make aware about the need for skilled auto technicians in north Georgia’s ‘Booming Motorsports industry’. The program is very tough and competitive. Only selected students can get admission to study this program. It includes the courses like ‘Car manufacturing’ and ‘Engine building’. After the accomplishment of this program, the students are qualified to work on National Association of Stock Car Racing (NASCAR) sport. The graduate students can also work in other racecar teams. There are other programs introduced in the year 2007. The program includes ‘Environmental horticulture’ and ‘home technology services’. In a partnership with ‘Georgia Power Company’ a new program called ‘Electrical Utility Technology’ was initiated. The college is home to one of premier fire science technology or emergency medical technician program in the state. There are various initiatives in this college which includes the new Center of Innovation for Manufacturing Excellence which was opened in 2006. It offers training course in ‘advanced computer-Integrated manufacturing’. Besides its economic development initiatives, another initiative was taken as Lanier Tech’s ‘ammonia refrigeration training program’. The program was designed to teach about the proper procedures to all refrigeration system operators. This program was started particularly to assist the major ‘poultry processing plants’ in Hall County and its Surrounding area. In addition to its various program, it has also collaborated with ‘Tractor’ and ‘Rider-mower manufacturer Kubota’ to offer a course in ‘modern manufacturing’. However, this course can only be learned in Spanish language. Considering its growing popularity, the school has planned a ‘Spanish language Class’ in computer essentials. In the year 2005, this course was offered to college’s adult literacy classes.
