LaGuardia Community College is a community college which is of two year course and is located in the Hunters Point which is located in the section of the Long Island City. The community college is named after the former Congressman who was also the mayor of the New York City, Fiorello H. LaGuardia. The college was established in the year of 1968 while the current working president of the college s Gail O. Mellow. The community college has got total of 17569 students. The LaGuardia Community College has got major offerings in the associate degrees like sciences, arts and also in the applied science along with an ongoing education programs. LaGuardia Community College was founded on January 22, 1968 by a declaration of the Board of Higher Education of the City of New York, a New York State organization which was the antecedent to the Board of Trustees of the City University of New York. The new college, originally nominated "Community College Number Nine", was to be wide-ranging. On March 24, 1970, the NYC Board of Higher Education permitted the former Ford Instrument Company construction on Long Island City's Thomson Avenue as the position for the College. Renovations to the five story, former factory, which had most in recent times been used to make up bits and pieces for the U.S. Army in World War II, began the same year. This construction would serve as the Main building of the new college—renamed Shenker Hall in 2009 in reputation of the College’s beginning president. This undergraduate enrollment made the LaGuardia college the third largest community college in the CUNY system, after the Borough of Manhattan Community College and Kingsborough Community College. LaGuardia commenced its new logo in March 2011. It consists of a red square with nine arrows suggesting the College’s commencement as Community College Number Nine. The arrows come in concert in the center of the logo mark to symbolize introspection, and the negative space at the center and among each of the arrows forms a star representing endless enlargement.
