Jamestown Community College (JCC) is one of the top community colleges of the United States. It is a two-year college which is operating its administration function under SUNY system. The main campus of the college is located in the city of Jamestown in Chautauqua County, New York. The college’s second main campus is located in Cattaraugus County in Olean and its fourth site is situated in Warren, Pennsylvania. JCC offers various degree and certificate programs in various areas. The college was established in 1950 which became the first community college to establish under the ‘State University of New York (SUNY)’ system. Initially, the college has enrollment of total 169 students. Later the number of students increases to more than 3,500. The college is situated on 107 acre site at the foot of Chautauqua Lake. Likewise, its second campus ‘The Cattaraugus County Campus’ is situated at 50 miles east of Jamestown in Olean. The current working president of the college is ‘Cory L. Duckworth’.

This college is committed to connect the students toward their goals by providing them challenging educational experiences in caring environment. JCC is recognized all over the world for its academic excellence, collaborative spirit, an entrepreneurial mindset and innovative leadership. In fact, it has set the mission of providing academic excellence to all the students. The main purpose of this college is to serve the students who desire to learn transfer programs by providing technical and career programs. It has also goal of offering the community the opportunity to pursue ‘part-time’ study for the improvement of their job skills and cultural enrichment. According to the report of ‘The Chronicle of Higher Education’, this college was named as ‘Top Performing Public Two-year College’ in 2012. JCC even topped the list of public ‘two-year colleges’ including 35 institutions from the ‘State University of New York (SUNY)’ and ‘City University of New York (CUNY)’. According to the report of ‘The Chronicle’, its graduation rate is 34.8 in 150 percent time and 30.2 in 100 percent time. In the fall of 2011, the new center called ‘Science Center’ was designed to meet ‘Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)’ silver standards. The center has several number of green features which enables the energy conservation and also promote environmentally conscious thinking. JCC offer various associate degrees under Science Center. It offers ‘Liberal arts and Sciences: math and science’, ‘environmental science’ and ‘biotechnology’. The center is featured with state-of-the art classrooms, preparation rooms for courses in biotechnology, biology, chemistry and geology.

The students enrolling in this college are benefited with affordable tuition fees. The New York resident students have to pay annually $4050. Likewise, the full-time annual tuition fee for non-New York student is $8100. The New York residents have to pay $170 per credit hour and the non-New York residents have to pay $305 per credit hour. The college is also providing several forms of financial aid which include various scholarships. JCC’s most successful scholarship program is USA (Unified Student Assistance) scholarship. This scholarship is provided to those graduate students who fall in the category of top 20% of their high school class. The scholarship covers the amount of New York resident tuition minus Pell, TAP and PHEAA.

The students can get the enjoyment from the various chartered clubs and organizations which are developed to give the students with new experience ranging from creative writing to biotechnology. The official student governing body of this college is ‘Student Senate’. They have freedom to raise their voice in all student affairs and other college activities through participating in the student government. The two responsible organizations to bring the activities in the college are ‘The Campus Activity Board (CAB)’ and ‘The College Program Committee’. The Campus Activity Board is composed of only students and the College Program Committee consists of both faculty and students. The college also has various sport programs which serves as refreshment for the students. This college is a member of ‘Western New York Athletic Conference’ and ‘Region III of National Junior College Athletic Association’. Both the main campus of JCC’s ‘The Jamestown teams’ and ‘the Cattaraugus County teams’ participate in the athletic programs. The Jamestown teams are well known as ‘the Jayhawks’ and the Cattaraugus County teams are well-known as ‘the Jaguars’. The students of Jamestown campus can get enjoyment from various sports like soccer, baseball, basketball, golf, swimming, volleyball, wrestling whereas the students of Cattaraugus County Campus are kept limited to the sports like soccer, softball and basketball.

JCC also have ‘Weeks galley’ which enriches with cultural lives. The gallery presents significant visual and interdisciplinary art programs for region. It is located in the Arts and Science Center of ‘The Jamestown campus’. The gallery staff also opened the Center Gallery on ‘JCC Cattaraugus County Campus’ in 2009. It also presents local artists and faculty from the regional colleges highlighting ‘CACC Members Show’ and ‘Southern Tier Biennial (STB)’. Likewise, the college is facilitated with ‘Scharmann Theatre’ which is located on ‘the Jamestown Campus’ in the Arts and Sciences Center. The theatre organizes and hosts dozens of cultural programs and events each year. The theatre is named after ‘Robert Lee Scharmann’ who took initiation in teaching English and drama at Jamestown community College in 1956. The current coordinator of the theatre is ‘Robert T. Chlick’ and ‘Steven Gustafson’.
