Eastern Kentucky University is a public university establish in 1906. Located in Richmond, Kentucky, United States of America, the university has been performing with the motto “Get wisdom, get understanding”. Expanded in the area of 892 acres (3.61 km. square) the university runs under the presidency of Dr. Michael T. Benson. Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), this undergraduate and graduate learning institution maintains three different regional campuses in Corbin, Danville, and Manchester and centers in Fort Knox, Lancaster and Somerset.

Central University was located at the present site of EKU during the time of its establishment in 1874. Central College consolidated with Centre College due to some financial problems in 1901. In 1906 the Kentucky General Assembly prepared an application to establish Eastern Kentucky State Normal School No. 1. The application was approved by the governor on March 21, 1906. In 1922 the college was renamed as Eastern Kentucky State Normal School and Teachers College, after it became a four-year institution. In 1925 the college awarded its first degrees. Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accredited the School in 1928. The college changed its name into Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College in 1928. After the addition of graduate studies in 1935, the college General Assembly erased the word Teachers from its name in 1948. In 1948 the college was applicable to award nonprofessional degrees. 1966 is the year when the college was officially named as Eastern Kentucky University. First doctoral degree was awarded by the University recently in the year 2010. EKU shelters 5 academic colleges and provides 160 degree programs to its students in associate, baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral levels.
