Angelica Hale took over our heart when she belted out Andra Day’s ‘Rise Up’ in the twelfth season of America’s Got Talent. She is currently competing on America’s Got Talent: The Champions’and has made through the finals. Here are more things that you need to know about little champions.

Filipino Roots

Angelica Hale was born on July 31, 2007, in Atlanta, Georgia, to James Hale and Eva Bolando. She has a younger sister, Abigail. Her father is reportedly half Filipino, half Caucasian, and her mother hails from Iligan City, Philippines. 


She contracted severe bacterial pneumonia when she was just four years old, which resulted in multiple organ failure, including permanent scarring in her right lung. She was placed in a medically-induced coma and was later put on ECMO life-support as her condition worsened. She was on ECMO for 12 days.

After 80 days in the hospital recovering, she was sent home on April 24, 2012. But, she was on dialysis for more than a year. On September 13, 2013, she received a life-saving kidney transplant from her mother. She has now recovered but gets a quarterly check-up. Recently on AGT: The Champions, she shared,

I remember being in the hospital and not knowing what was going on and then realizing what was actually happening…It felt like I didn’t know if I was going to survive or not.

After finishing second on AGT season 12 with Darci Lynne Farmer winning the series, Hale started performing in different parts of the US & also appeared in TV shows. Despite performing on several events, including at the 2017 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, she has also been involved with several health awareness programmes.

She is the first kid ambassador of the National Kidney Foundation. In 2018, she was named the national spokesperson for Sepsis Alliance’s It’s About TIME campaign.

Made History

Hale first received golden buzzer in the 12th season of AGT from guest judge Chris Hardwick after her performance on Alicia Keys’ Girl on Fire during the Judge Cuts round. One of the finalists of AGT: The Champions, Hale made it through after receiving coveted golden buzzer from judge Howie Mandel.

She made history as the first contestant to receive two golden buzzers on Got Talent. Talking about Howie’s golden buzzer, she shared,

I told myself [that] if I made it to the finale that’d be awesome, but I never even thought about the golden buzzer…And when he said golden buzzer, I was completely shocked.

Acting Career

While Hale is too good to be true in singing, it seems she is trying her luck in acting as well. She is set to appear as Anna in the forthcoming 2019 movie, American Reject. Also, she will lend her voice for the titular character in the upcoming animated series, Maya Unstoppable. The movie is anticipated to premiere in 2019.

Hale is competing on AGT: The Champions aka Olympics of Talent and has made it to the finals. She will battle against the best of best 11 acts, including her friend and AGT season 12 winner, Darci Lynne Farmer. She has it all to win AGT: The Champions, but will she be able to claim the title?
