As horrifying as they are to watch, the set of horror movies are not that scary and life threatening. But, it is believed that evil spirits roam around the sets of these movies and a lot of activities remains unexplained along with the deaths of the cast members.  While the deaths of the characters in these movies make the plot even more interesting, the real-life deaths of the cast members are no entertainment. Here are some of the unfortunate actors who lost their lives, either after or during their stint in the horror movies.

Martha Mansfield

Back in 1923, while filming the movie, Warrens of Virginia, the 24-year-old actress died of a forlorn accident on the set. Martha, who was playing Agatha Warren on the movie, died as her dress caught fire while she was sitting inside her car.

Rumor has it; she caught a burning matchstick on her civil war costume of hoop skirts and ruffles which instantly got ignited. Even with other actors helping her and lead actor, Wilfred Lytell, throwing his coat to prevent the further burning, Martha sustained severe burns and toxemia, which took her life the following day.

Jack MacGowran

We all know that The Exorcist is one of the best horror movies of all time. The movie made its headline after the entire movie set caught fire due to a lightning strike, except the 400-year-old cross and Sharon Spencer’s room, who portrayed the role of the possessed girl in the movie.  With that going, actor Jack MacGowran died of the flu, who contracted influenza during 1973 London epidemic, right around the time of the premiere.

Vic Morrow

We all have watched The Twilight Zone franchise, and whether it’s a new one or the old ones, almost everyone is familiar with it. If you haven’t watched it in theater or on television, then you must have come across The Twilight zone themed pinball machine and Disneyland ride. The point we are trying to make here is, it’s famous. While filming one of the scenes in the movie, actor Vic Morrow and other two child actors got into a helicopter accident. In the scene, where Morrow was supposed to save the kids, lost his life with them in real life.

Aaliyah Dana Haughton

American singer/actor, Aaliyah Dana Haughton died in the plane crash at the Bahamas. Haughton, who had just finished filming the movie, Queen of the Damned, could not reach to its premiere. The plane in which she boarded crashed because it carried 700 pounds more weight than it was supposed to. ‘Queen of the Damned’ had finished its shooting but few of the lines needed to be overdubbed, which was later assisted by her brother, who had a similar voice as her.

Heather O’Rourke

Heather O’Rourke, a 12-year-old actress, who starred in the famous horror movie, Poltergeist, died of an undiagnosed congenital problem. Doctors said she had narrow intestine from the period of her birth. Heather’s death had nothing to do with the movie or its curses, but her demise in the operating table gave everyone a chill, which happened right after the movie released its trilogy.

Do you think playing in the horror movies had anything to do with these actors’ death? Tell us in comments.
