10 Popular Child Stars You Would Hardly Recognize Today!
You can hardly disagree when we say that the entertainment industry is achromatic without child actors. We can do anything but hate the child actors who indulge us to love TV shows and movies just a little more. Child actors literally grow up in Hollywood, jumping and running on the sets of films and TV shows.
As time goes by they change in every way possible and sometimes we are just not ready to like what we see or in this case not recognize what we see. Sometimes it's the transformation of the actors, which drags us in the state of skepticism, while sometimes their long hiatus from the industry might keep us thinking and scratching our head whether or not we know them. Today, we’ve prepared a list of child actors whom you wouldn’t even recognize today when you pass by them.
1. Angus T. Jones
Remember the cute and plump Jake Harper from the hit adult comedy series, Two and a Half Men? He spent over a decade sharing the screen with Jon Cryer and Charlie Sheen in one of the most popular shows. Well, the cutest “half man” of the show did show signs of growing up during later stages of the show, and now, he’s completely changed. He bid adieu to the sitcom in 2013 after he infamously called the series a "filth.”
Since then he has managed to keep a low profile. After attending college for a few years, he now works as an artist and photographer and often shares motivational quotes on social media. His old haircut is gone and he has grown his hair long now, making him bizarrely unrecognizable.
2. Mara Wilson
How much has the protagonist of Matilda changed? Quite a lot. Afraid of being typecast, she left the tinsel town for good and went on to pursue a career in writing. She has written a play called Sheeple directed by Max Reuben.
You might not recognize her when you cross paths, but she has definitely been working on something big to inspire many. She has published a book, Where Am I Now: True Stories of Girlhood and Accidental Fame, which revolved around her journey from her career on the industry to being Hollywood dropout.
3. Jaden Smith
This is a one-star kid who has definitely grown from his The Karate Kid and The Pursuit of Happyness days. Sporting different hairstyles and posting photos prom with his girlfriend (or boyfriend as he recently referred), this Smith kid has grown up to be different than his parents, and completely independent with his own music production.
Despite being in public eye and earning fame on his own right in both acting and music, Smith has changed a lot and looks nothing like Dre Parker from The Karate Kid.
4. Taylor Momsen
This woman was a regular in Gossip Girl as the younger sister of Dan Humphrey. She starred alongside Jim Carrey as Cindy Lou Who in The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. She was definitely one of the cute faces who graced our screens in the early 2000s.
After more than a decade and a half later, how do you expect her to look like? Shedding off the roots of her childlike avatar, she has progressed to music. She has been running an alternative rock post-grunge music gang called The Pretty Reckless since 2009 along with Ben Phillips, Mark Damon and Jamie Perkins. It’s great to see how she found her true calling and has managed to float.
5. Ariel Winter
Alex Dunphy of The Modern Family was every nerd and sensible kid’s hero. Her glam avatar is the polar opposite of her nerdy self in the show. Ariel, who always managed to look happy in public, has actually opened up about her troubled childhood, which was ruled by her mother. From making her dress in revealing, non-age-appropriate outfits to restricting her diet, the whole charade made her childhood anything but blissful.
Been through a lot during early years, she now is an active self-love advocate and also speaks about body positivity.
6. Bradley Pierce
With the release of Jumanji sequel last year, one couldn’t help reminiscing about the wide-eyed and docile, Peter Shepherd. Bradley didn’t appear in many films after his work in the 90s cult classic, alongside Kirsten Dunst and Robin Williams.
Although he wasn’t visible on screen, he didn’t leave the movie industry altogether. Having lent his voice to films like The Little Mermaid, Sonic the Hedgehog, Peter Pan: Return to Neverland and Beauty and the Beast, he has made a name for himself as a voice actor.
As per Bradley’s bio on his Instagram page, he is working as a filmmaker. While you might remember him as the baby-faced Peter, just a forewarning, he has changed way more than you have imagined. But, don’t worry, you might recognize him as the voice of Chip The Teacup.
7. Moises Arias
You would not be a Hannah Montana fan if you didn't fall for the flirty neighborhood guy, Rico. After working in a mix of TV shows like The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and the Sundance favorite, The Land, Moises has now emerged as an excellent photographer, capturing the likes of Kanye West, Kendall Jenner, Jaden Smith and Kylie Jenner.
Film photography is his forte, and he justified his interest saying,
Through film photography, it’s been a sort of evolution for me of how to seem invisible, and how to not make someone be uncomfortable.
It might be hard for us to recognize him fast forwarding 12 years from his appearance in Hannah Montana. But what do think about his transformation? Well! You can check out his Instagram page, and we let you be the judge.
8. Georgie Henley
When Georgie Henley first appeared in the silver screen in the Chronicles of Narnia movie, nobody could ignore this cute little 8-year-old and she instantly became one of the recognized child artists Hollywood ever had. But even after making a remarkable debut in the industry, Georgie was not seen in more movies, as expected by her fans all around the world. However, she somehow managed to appear in Perfect Sisters alongside Abigail Breslin, and also in a movie adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s novel, Jane Eyre of the same title as the titular character.
She took a break from mainstream cinema and went on to pursue her education at Clare College, Cambridge. From there, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English on June 22, 2016. More recently, she starred with her newest role and professional stage debut in the Southwark Playhouse’s Angry. As of 2018, she is set to star in the upcoming American drama television miniseries, The Spanish Princess.
Well! For now, all we have to say is that the red headed bombshell is pretty unrecognizable.
9. Thomas Brodie-Sangster
Known for his cute looks in Love Actually, Thomas Brodie Sangster, has come a long way since acting in movies and series like Nanny McPhee, Doctor Who and the successful youth action franchise, The Maze Runner. He has successfully navigated his career as one of the teen’s favorite actors in Hollywood with nearly 20 movies since 2001 and has also appeared in a few episodes of Game Of Thrones.
At age 28 now, Thomas doesn’t look that much changed and has grown up to be a handsome man. However, he is still going to be remembered as that boy from Love Actually, with boyish charms and a cute smile.
10. Abigail Breslin
This star, who shot to fame with Little Miss Sunshine, regularly posts on social media, and you must have seen her in Dirty Dancing, Zombie Land and My Sister’s Keeper. The goofy child actress has grown into a beautiful woman and is an advocate for women rights. Moreover, she regularly shares data and statistical information to help others feel empowered. Talk about positivity!
Which one of them is pretty much the same for you? Sound off in the comment.
