Ian Hecox is entertainer and member of a web-based comedy duo Smosh. Ian Hecoxwas born on November 30, 1987. He is a born Christian. His mother Cheryl has been featured in multiple Smosh videos and his father has only been seen once in a Food Battle extra. Ian has been in a relationship with his girlfriend Melanie Moat since 2007.The other member of the duo and his best friend is Anthony Padilla. Padilla first began posting flash movies on New grounds in early 2003, under the name Smosh. Ian later joined Padilla. Soon afterward they began to post videos on YouTube in the autumn of 2005.
Ian Hecox and Padilla first met in their sixth grade science class at their early age. They became friends, and quickly discovered their knack for comedy. In 2005, they joined YouTube and made several videos together, lip syncing to theme songs such as Mortal Kombat, Power Rangers, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. At first, these videos were not intended to be posted online, but after they sent them to their friends, they started a YouTube channel. One of Smosh's earliest videos, "Pokémon Theme Music Video," was released in November 2005. It followed the same style as their other earlier videos, featuring the duo lip-synching the original English theme song for the Pokémon anime. However, the video instantly became much more popular than any of their other videos; over the course of its lifetime, it gained 24.7 million views, becoming the most-viewed video on all of YouTube at that time. It held that title for about six months until it was removed by YouTube.
Ian is often portrayed as dim-witted, ignorant, gullible, happy-go-lucky or childish. He constantly demonstrates a lack of knowledge of the world. He is usually seen as less mature than Anthony, often going into temper tantrums or crying fits. Even though Ian is usually shown as intellectually inferior to Anthony, there have been instances where he has been expressed as smarter than Anthony: For example, in "Anthony is Mexican," Ian spoke fluent Spanish while Anthony couldn't, and he had to rely on a dictionary. But despite all of this, polls have shown that Ian's more popular amongst Smosh fans than any other character. Ian apparently suffers from a small case of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and is also asthmatic.
Ian is shown to vary in being either more or less attractive to women than Anthony. He started an online blog to find someone who would date him, but every single one of the 30,698 votes declined. However, in the episode "5 Ways to Get a Girl," he was attracted by a girl who was sympathetic for him crying, but she was never seen again. In "Ian's First Girlfriend," Ian and Antoinette plan a wedding, but Anthony's hypnotism makes Ian lose his sentence, thus resulting in Antoinette breaking up with him. In "The Famous Cheese Guy," Anthony took a picture with a girl who enjoyed his cheese Melt-Down commercial, but when Ian moved in, the girl pushed him away and then spit on him. Ian's sexuality varies as well. In the episode "Smosh Snatchers," Anthony claims that the only guy Ian would go gay for is McGyver, but Ian states that he thinks every guy would go gay for McGyver. In "EVIL FORTUNE COOKIE", he was given a fortune that said that he and Anthony get married, so Ian asked Anthony to marry him. Anthony refused, and Ian started crying and yelled that he would've just divorced him anyway.
In 2012 the duo started three new YouTube channels, ElSmosh, with Smosh videos dubbed in Spanish, Shut Up! Cartoons, with various animated videos, and Smosh Games with gaming related content hosted alongside Mari, Lasercorn, Sohinki, and Jovenshire. In 2012, Smosh was featured as guests on Ask A Naked Guy.Hecox and Padilla have also provided guest voices on the machinima series Red vs. Blue.Iin July 2013 they started an Indiegogo campaign for an iOS and PC game, Food Battle: The Game. They also have stated that they would donate 10% of the funds to charity. The Smosh team has expanded to include others to handle animated, Spanish language, and video gaming content videos. Ian is available on facebook, twitter, instagram and wiki as well.
