Gwinnett Technical College was established to meet the increasing demand for technical training in the year 1984. The school’s name changed into ‘Gwinnett Technical Institute’ in 1988. Later the institute aligned Gwinnett Tech along with the ‘network of state technical institutes’ under ‘Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education(DTAE)’. Soon after its alignment, DTAE gave approval ‘Gwinnett Tech’ to grant the ‘Associate degrees’ in applied technology(AAT) in the sic programming areas. The approval made the way for ‘Gwinnett Tech’ to pursue accreditation with ‘Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges’. On July 6, 2000 the ‘Gwinnett Technical Institute’ changed its name as ‘Gwinnett Technical College’. The college’s name was changed in a motive to better reflect its position within ‘region’s higher education market’. The process of changing the name of institution was made possible by ‘Georgia’s A+ Education Reform Act of 2000’. The act allowed the institutes to work with proper accreditation as college.
